Be sure to twist the collar on the base unit to the lock symbol. The unit has a 2 level switch but no way to tell exactly what temperature it is. Trial and error are need to find the best setting for your hair.Removing the barrels is easy too. I turned off the unit and let it cool a bit. The glove provided is heat proof, and works well. Turn the collar to the unlock symbol, and give a tug on the barrel. It came right out!The variety of sizes and shapes makes this a versatile and affordable option for hair styling, and the overall length with barrel on is still under 12", so it's nicely portable. I got a neat little travel bag designed for the Dyson Airwrap that works well for this set.
