Do I need to set how many hours I need in the morning.

Timer just controls the amount of hours the light is on (4,8,12j. You set the timer at the hour you want he light on, and the timer will turn the light off after the set amount of hours. There on, the timer will turn the light at the same hour every day. If electricity goes out, or you unplug the timer, you will have to set the timer again.
