If you do this, you can push the mangled lid back onto the can loosely, but enough to keep most of the air out. Then place the can with its loosely placed lid into a small zip-lock bag and squeeze as much air out of the bag as possible while sealing the bag. Keep the paint can, now secured in the bag, as flat as possible to keep paint off the lid, which will make it impossible to pry the lid off. Later, you will most likely need a screwdriver to pry the lid off in spite of the above efforts, but doing it this way doesn't seem to dry the paint out, and for the first time in a decade, I've been able to use the same can of paint numerous times. Does it need acid metal prep, primer or top coat?** A: Yes. I used it on my chassis and under side of body. I used 2 coats rust bullet first, then top coated with the rust bullet black shell. Best if sprayed, but I actually brushed it on and it turned out suprisingly nice, just need to work slow to prevent air bubbles. I used it on my jeep rebuild so it was more function over fashion, but if it were a hotrod I would have sprayed it. Still get tons of complements on it though. I hope this helps. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good stuff! *by R***N on 27 April 2011* I chose the slightly more expensive black Rust Bullet since my car, a 2000 VW Jetta GLX, also happens to be black. I picked this car up very cheap, partly because of it's appearance - there was a large section on the rocker panel and a somewhat smaller section on the trunklid, as well as several other areas where the paint had peeled off - very unsightly on a black car! Fortunately, VW used rust inhibitors in the metal, because the rust hadn't gotten very deep, even as this car has endured every harsh Buffalo winter of its existence. However, I wasn't going to let a foot-in-the-door opportunity turn into a rust-ravaging nightmare! So, I applied the Rust Bullet (after prepping the affected areas) with an old watercolour brush (for the smoothest possible finish one could expect from a brush, lol!) - The car looks awesome now! The stuff takes awhile to dry, but this allowed what few brush stroke lines there were to completely level off. No one can tell that there was ever a problem! Word of caution - among the other usual precautions listed on the can that one must observe, WEAR GLOVES!! I didn't, and paid the price - you'll wear it for weeks, lol!
