I have used this brand for years and keep returning to them. Their quality is way ahead of the cheaper brands with everything laid out properly inside, unit is finished well, easy to use, good sound clicks for on and off and they look great. For a few pounds more I think its worth using MK.

British made, classic 100+ year old British brand (now American owned, but still). For decades MK were seen as the premium electrical accessories option. All major buildings specified them, they were the de facto standard. They still have the Royal Warrant. Recently, that waned a bit. Or so people say. The truth is Crabtree was always every bit as good, but not so stylish. Contactum never made rubbish either. Are MK still the best? Hmm... I think they look great (everyone copied their design when they came out), have great action (switch and socket), very reliable, but they're not the easiest to fit if you're retrofitting with old wiring. Ideally your cables need to be cut straight, with all conductors about the same length for the easiest entry (and approx 10-15mm of copper stripped. Doubling ends is ok for light switches but impossible for MK sockets, especially on a ring). However, it's very easy to have ones with defective terminals, or screw heads that disintegrate after being tightened up (basically rendering the socket dangerous and useless after one installation). You have to choose your screwdriver wisely and - if a DIY’er - test fit it away from the installation. Quite often, when working in tight spaces with a cable bunch, some of the conductors won't be gripped. Defective terminal or just bad design? I've encountered defective terminals. Overall, this is where MK's quality is not what it once was. The cable entry is too fussy unless you have lots to work with. I found BG and Crabtree easier to fit in these situations, but it's not MK's fault. Still... I recommend them... quality's still there even if some people like to bash them as being "overpriced"... BUT I think Crabtree (also a famous British brand / now owned by Siemens but unchanged) and Contactum (another classic British brand) are pretty damn good too. Crabtree is always my go-to for when an MK isn’t possible.
