There is hm ph electrode storage solution you can get...there is a sponge in the cap of this ph meter that you dont want to let dry out.

is this meter pre calibrated out of the box?

Yes.....any bottled water that has been treated with the Reverse Osmosis (RO) has a PH of 7 .......Read the Label for (RO).....so it's an easy and cheap check.......

What is the operational temperature range ?

I use it for adjusting brewing water, so the range I've use it is from 45F to 165F.

Is this meter appropriate fow wine?

I've been using it for beer pH measurement so wine should be fine.
