It has been used by me for cakes from the bakery and sits on my kitchen island. Not only is it lightweight plastic but it looks like glass. It's sturdy and can be cleaned easily. After receiving this I was able to see how it could be used for vegetables, dips, crackers, etc. - I'm a more visual person and really had a difficult time imagining this from a cake stand. I used to have a cake server like this only in glass and it was extremely heavy to lift the top with one hand as well as trying to wash it without dropping it on the floor or in the sink. It is sturdy for thick plastic but light in weight compared to my glass one. When I discovered how many uses it had I was delightfully surprised. It is a cake cover, punch bowl, and an appetizer all in one. Even the dip bowl, which is the stand for the cake, separates easily but stays firmly in place when in use. I baked a bundt cake and let it cool in the pan for 2 hours. Then I removed it and placed it on the cake plate and put the cover on. The top of the cake is actually the bottom of the pan, The seal on the cover is tight enough for condensation to build up under the dome. I had to clean the dome lid 2 times before it stopped steaming up. Best I have ever had and the price is really good considering the quality. You get what you pay for this time. It is QUALITY WITH MANY USES !!!Showed it to my sister yesterday. The only thing I wish I had known ahead of time is that the plastic it is made out of, very easily shows wear. Don't use any sort of abrasive sponge for washing and be very careful when cutting the cake not to scratch it up. I don't see this looking good for years. Next time, I'm going to go with glass. It's good for the price.
