With 6 - 8 pieces inside the tin, they charred beautifully on a Gas BBQ with the lid CLOSED in about 15 minutes. Using same technique but with MORE pieces inside, they didn't char at all even after 30. Both of these cans can small holes I punctured in the top. The second one was just too full. The fabric got slightly brown, but didn't char. I'll stick with 8 pieces and try 1 more, one at a time to fit the perfect amount to char in 20mins. They are the size of Altoids cans. I like the fact they are plain, without a coat of labeling ink. These FIT THE BILL for me.
