The Twilight Saga White Collection

Contrary to appearances, The Twilight Saga is not bloated with bloody action sequences. And of course that does not mean it must be boring. The action sequences that exist are well done and are not overdone. My approach to The Twilight Saga was similar to my approach to the Harry Potter books. They both seemed suitable only for teenagers. Stephenie Meyer's first book in the series, Twilight, also seemed too romantic for my male tastes, and I was afraid it would be a dish of pulp fiction smeared with vampire sleaze. But she wrote sequels, they continued to be published, and they continued to be bestsellers. So I read some reviews. The reviews gave me another reason to avoid the books: They were boring. I mean, that is what a few reviews said. Things like this: "This is not horror. Why should I care what Bella [the main character] does in class? I survived four years of boredom in my own high school. Am I supposed to pay the author to torture me with more of the same?" I refused to buy into the series. But when the first movie came out, I thought moviemakers might edit the boring parts. I saw the movie and was pleased. Likewise for the second movie. Thanks to the movies, I read more book reviews, and I noticed that the series of books had ended. That was good. In a series that does not end, the books have a habit of becoming cookie-cutter copies. Read one and you have read them all. Knowing that The Twilight Saga had an ending and seeing that amazon.com offered a good deal on a boxed set, I took a chance. (The third movie came out before I read the books, but I have postponed seeing it, not wanting to spoil my reading more than it may already have been spoiled.) Having just completed my reading of the four novels, I have reached a conclusion regarding the allegation that these books are only for teenagers. The allegation is baloney. The sole indication I found that the books are only for teenagers is the absence of vulgar language. For example, I am sure that if Meyer's characters were realistic, they would use the common F-word instead of using Meyer's "freaking." But that is not her fault. If she used the F-word, high school libraries might not shelve her books, or at least they might restrict them to eighteen-year olds. Many teenagers would be denied easy access to a story that is obviously suitable for them, if not suitable only for them. Is the story too romantic? I do I hold true to the conviction that a human being cannot love a human being. It is impossible. Also I maintain that marriage is a social invention, not a natural one. Therefore I disapproved of Bella's obsession with love, and I was wary of her mate Edward's insistence on marriage. Nevertheless these are secondary complaints. Since I do not deny males and females the freedom to cohabit, the issues of love and marriage become academic. If Bella and Edward want to live together, that is okay. (As long as they are not denied the freedom to separate.) Regarding these books having too much bloody sleaze, I think not. The blood and gore is minimal, appropriate for the telling of the story. Regarding the alleged boredom, I feel that "boredom" is too harsh. I do think the content includes much that is prosaic. Enough that I would categorize the books as romance, as well as horror. Pages are filled with domestic life, high school scenes, small talk, a beach party, lovemaking, and teenage dating. But I suppose this is standard material for romance novels, and many readers welcome it. I for one tolerated it, and I was rewarded when I got to uplifting sequences of plot development and denouement. In other words, the prosaic sequences were necessary for the development of the story. NOTE: I do not regret having seen the first two movies. Indeed if they encourage you to read the books, I recommend seeing them. Regarding the two movies, I remember them as being more violent than the books. Also, the appearances of the movie characters only hint at the aesthetic perfection of the characters in the books.

If you grew up loving Twilight or are just discovering the saga, this white box set is absolutely stunning. This edition feels like a collector’s dream and the perfect gift for any Twilight lover.

I simply cannot say enough about these books. I got introduced to the "Twilight" series very late in the game--it was just this past November as "Breaking Dawn part 2" was coming out in theaters. I was one of those people that had thought they were too old, I'm 42, for a teen vampire romance etc. However, after I happened to see Robert Pattinson in "Water for Elephants" I decided I had to give "Twilight" a try. Boy, was I proven wrong, age has absolutely nothing to do with it, not when the story is this good! So, after seeing the first movie (and making my husband watch it with me again the next day--he's now a fan too), we rushed out and bought the rest of the DVDs and got caught up. We have seen "Breaking Dawn part 2" twice now as well. That same week I also ordered this book set. And then, when it came, I read the entire set TWICE in less than a month. I kid you not, folks, and we are talking about over 2500 pages in all! It may be an old saying but I literally could not put them down. As my husband can tell you, when I was reading there was no interrupting me! Stephenie Meyers is a fantastic writer, one of the best I've read in a very long time. And I read a lot. The last time I was even close to being this absorbed in a series was when I read the "Harry Potter" books. In the "Twilight" series, Meyers reveals an incredible talent for bringing unique characters to life in a way that draws you completely into the world she sees in her mind, she creates a new, vibrant vampire--and wherewolf--mythology in a world that seems so real it's as if you could step right into it without any hesitation (just as Bella does). Bella is a 17-year-old high school girl in love with forever-17-year-old vampire Edward, and their love story becomes the stuff of legend set in reality. Later, when it grows into a love triangle with newly-transformed wherewolf Jacob, reality takes on a whole new meaning. And amid love and joy Bella must also face death, loss and pain before she can make the final choice for her future. There really isn't one sentence or paragraph that can truly capture the entire tale and do it justice because Meyers' writing is so visceral, she makes you experience everything so deeply along with her characters as they journey through her masterful storytelling. Everything feels fully three-dimensional, from the intensly detailed inner thought processes of the main characters to the dramatic and often comical dialogue between them, from the richly described environments in which they live to the sometimes difficult and distant places they find themselves going to, Meyers never takes any short cuts with her writing. From what quite literally began as a happy dream one night, she has created an entire world that I will eagerly return to again and again. I am also extremely impressed that Meyers made sure to keep a strong grip on her material when the movies were being made, making sure that they stayed as true to the original books as humanly possible.Yes, the books contain more than the movies for which I am grateful, but they are really close and that is miraculous for all of the Twi-hard book fans out there! I could probably go on for pages here so I will wrap this up by saying that no matter your age or gender you will find so much in these books that transcends typical fantasy stories that I strongly urge everyone to take a chance and jump into the "Twilight" Universe!!!

the cover designs are really pretty - I 100% recommend to buy them cause the story is great but I think a lot of you know this since nearly everyone saw the films ( which are also really good) they are really good deco - like I said the covers are great and make every bookshelf look better

You have to be careful with the white covers because you can stain it very easily, but it doesn't really matter, they are lovely, the titles of the books are in a shiny red ink, so pretty, and for the price, it's all what you can ask for.
