I have carried the same Benchmade blade pretty much every day for about 10 years. When I lost it in the woods I tried a couple other every day carry knives (in the $120 plus range) and didn't love everything about them so returned them. I happened upon a picture of this knife while reading a review of another and thought the profile was pleasing enough to at least look at. Once I read some reviews, I figured it was a good bet to at least use for a while until I found a good every day carry replacement and then relegate this Civivi to a backup status. However, once in hand, I see no reason why I won't be using this knife for years until something happens to it. First, the size - it's not a massive knife and it's (just barely) under 3-inch blade is just about perfect for anything you could throw at it. You don't use these sized knives and think, "I wish I had a bigger blade for this task." You can pretty much do anything with it short of food preparation. I think the reason most people justify a larger knife is handle size. Here, the handle to blade ratio is as good as it gets on a folder (in my opinion). the slight swell at the butt enhances the grip and the notches on the back spine allow you to choke up with your thumb, while your pointer can grip the choil. The micarta scales are perfectly grippy and look far better than plastic. That this knife comes in several variations is a big plus. Mine is the olive color micarta and it's a warm, earth tone that doesn't look out of place on a knife, in my opinion. The color is subtle as is the design of the knife. The understated aesthetics are what drew me to look at the knife in the first place. I think it's well designed. The blade itself is as well-finished as the rest of the knife (fit and finish overall are as good as any factory blade I've seen). Edge from the factory is very good and the grind is smooth. Edge retention so far is good. Some people complain about D2 steel. For one thing, it's as hard as a knife needs to be (assuming the heat treat is good and this one seems to be) and you're not using it as a pry bar! Secondly, I've never had a problem with non-stainless steel rusting on me when I was using a tool every day, even with minimal care. The flip action is just fine (I really don't care how fast a knife flips... you can pay big money for that and you've really just got a nice fidget toy). It does what it's supposed to and locks into place with no blade play at all after using it for a week or so every day. Lastly, the deep-carry clip is nice. I can't understand why more knives don't utilize them. I wonder how resilient it will be given that I've only carry it for a week or so. Either way, the design is good and it won't slip out of your pocket or get easily caught in seat belts, etc. like even some of the more high-end knives I've owned do. In short, a really great value.

Linerlock hält was es verspricht.

Had it for a few months now. My everyday carry knife before this was 3 times the price, and I found myself reluctant to use it for tough cuts. The price of this one is perfect. Solid, centered blade, no wobble. They built it to be easy to disassemble and service. The fidget factor was good out of the box, but after adding just a bit more lube and breaking it in, it's the absolute king of my pile of knives. The schlick and click are so satisfying, really tactile when it snaps into place. Came shaving sharp, maintains well through hard cuts, and is easy to occasionally touch up with just a strop and rubbing compound. I wish my chef knife held its edge this well. I own a lot of knives from $15 to $150, and this one is my new favorite by far. Love the micarta scales, too. They've kept their color perfectly.
