GrowlerWerks uKeg Nitro Cold Brew Coffee Maker, 50 oz, Black Chrome

I have seen several reviews on various websites that complain about this product, it obvious most of those reviewers didn't follow the instructions or do enough. There are some really good videos that can be found to show you how to use this if you learn best that way; I also found a really bad video that depicts how to use it. 1. Find some food grade lubricant and apply it to the "O" rings, anybody that is familiar with these knows that they will rip. Do NOT use petroleum jelly, it will dissolve the seals. 2. You CANNOT carbonate a warm liquid, it has to be ice cold to work well. 3. Buy a mason jar type cold coffee brewer with a stainless steel filter. It will save you a lot of time and money. Cold brew your coffee and add to this unit. You can have cold brew and nitro brew always ready. 4. Make sure the valve is in the OFF position when you add the Nitrous Oxide cartridge. If you don't as soon as you screw it into the injection cover, the gas will be gone into the air. 5. Add cold brew to MAX FILL line (it's inside), add cartridge to holder and screw into lid (don't over tighten), screw cover on unit (again don't overtighten), turn to INFUSE and shake for 1-2 minutes, turn valve to DISPENSE, and enjoy!! It's that simple. 6. You can leave it in DISPENSE mode when you put it in refrigerator between uses or you can place it in INFUSE mode. Infuse mode may over carbonate it. If you leave it in Infuse mode and shake it again, you will have nothing but foam. I read dozens of reviews and questions to research the difference between using Nitrogen and Nitrous Oxide; most Nitro brewers use one or the other, I even found a couple that can use either. From what I read some people claim that pure Nitrogen may add a sweet taste and a cascading creamy texture, while some people claim that Nitrous Oxide makes it more "fizzy" and "foamy". GrowlerWerks seem to have perfected the spout so that using Nitrous Oxide cartridges not only provides this creamy cascading texture but you can carbonate, dispense, and clean the unit with a single 16 gram cartridge.

Save your money. This product is useless. Followed the instructions to a tee and it doesn’t work. Followed the troubleshooting to a tee and still didn’t work. You basically get a glass of coffee with a few bubbles on top that tastes like garbage. They also designed it to use 16g nitro cartridges which are much harder to find than 8g and ridiculously expensive - Starbucks ends up being cheaper.

I was so excited to receive the GrowlerWerks uKeg, but hit upon a major problem. The Nitro cartridges for this unit are not available in the UK. GrowlerWerks put a card in the box to give 50% off the purchase of your first order from a supplier in Holland. The shipping is about £17.00 which certainly hikes the price of the brew quite considerably. I had ordered some Nitro Cartridges before I received the GrowlerWerks uKeg but they were too small. Amazon recommended the cartridges so I guess their algorithm was not very accurate on this one. Ended up tipping away my first brew and returning the keg back to Amazon. I am now buying the NitroPress machine.

After reading reviews I was skaptical about this product, worried that that coffee would be flat. There are things you can do to get a creamier head on your nitro coffee! 1) Make sure your coffee is COLD. Instead of diluting with water, add ice. 2) Leave the valve on infuse overnight 3) Shake it longer What I love about this product: - It fits very nicely in my fridge- and I have an RV fridge! - I also have not had any leaks or dribbles out of the nozzle. It’s worked great for me! - it holds a good amount of cold brew - it came with 4 cold brew bags and the drip mat which was a nice surprise. (The brew bags can be reused, just turn them inside out and rinse, then hang to dry) - making the nitro cold brew was actually very easy to do. - the coffee tastes amazing. I got a milk frother so I can top it with cold foam and now I can fire Starbucks. - an added bonus is that this looks amazing on your counter. I highly recommend! 2 of my friends have bought one of these just from seeing mine. My video is of a pour, that picture I posted is topped with cream cold foam.
