Tried pen tethers. I wouldn't recommend the tethers if you fly in a compact cockpit or higher maneuvering aircraft. This strap worked however worked perfectly. Even the few seconds that I don't have to waste as I reach for a pen and push a tether out of the way, or it gets caught on a switch (also a throttle -_-) is appreciated. Also, I have medium to larger hands and it fit fine.

When Air Traffic Control gives me 3-4 commands at once, the extra 3-4 seconds it takes for me to find and pull a pen from its holder makes a big difference. With this I have pen to paper within one second and am writing almost as fast as they're speaking. This 3-4 seconds makes a difference in keeping a student pilot from feeling too nervous or overwhelmed. I once had the pen slide out so I looped a couple small cable ties loosely around (and through the inside of) the pen holder...they press against the pen on the inside of the pen holder and create enough friction to keep a small slick plastic pen in place yet still enable me to adjust its position as I want. I don't know what the deal is with some people saying it's too small...I'm 6' 0", 220 lbs. and it fits my hand perfectly.

Works for me. I can see this not fitting quite a few people, especially wearing gloves. I like the ability to adjust the angle of the pen. I’ll keep using it.

Been flying for 35 years and this is a great idea! That said, I don't how they measured hands to say one size fits. I do not have a large hand and I've had most of my squadron mates try this on. IT FITS ONLY ONE (1) OF SQUADRON PILOT's - and she's only 5'4". I have to pull again the elastic like I'm setting a tourniquet to use the Velcro flap. I can't recommend this to anyone until they size it larger. We (squadron) buy Flyboys (knee boards, bags, shirts) but I'm telling them to steer clear of this. Good idea - bad execution!
