Will this work to pull up staples in a hardwood floor? I'm taking an old rug out & found nice hardwood underneath - need to get the staples out.

Yes it will work if staple is high enough off floor. I have used it for that. My house had carpeting over hardwood floors and I had to remove the staples holding the padding. If the same problems I had, you will also need a fine blade flat tip screwdriver (to gently pry up staples not high enough) and a vice grip plier with a flat end (needle nose do not work). The vise grips work on the staples that the crescent tool cannot get, but it takes longer.

Is this product made in USA?

Looking at the tool the word CRESCENT Brand with a circled R and NPII below on the tool. I do not have the package the product came in and that is where you would find more info. Look up CRESCENT on the internet and you will possibly get more info. These US companies have them made overseas to the original specs if they were made in the USA, for a cheap cost and then sell it to us at a high percentage of profit. It is a durable product. Will it pull 23 gauge pins in hardwood without breaking them if, say, the pin is 1/4" proud of the surface?

Yes, i worked on hardwood with this tool and removed a lot of nails without head, rusted, breaked. This is a fantastic tool, i love it!

Will this grab and pull nails in compodite deck boards?

It will, but the nail has to be up enough for the jaws to grab it. If the nails are below the surface of the decking, you’ll likely need another type tool. If you can grab the nailheads, it will pull them up.
