I don't think it's a 5 star for me...but when rating it..one star means "I hate it", 2 I like it, 3 it's ok, you catch my drift...:) I know what I have read anyhow about MTHFR gene and that my good ol' lab states I'm one of the fortunate ones with this "Mutant" gene"..lovely word "Mutant." So, I am taking it because of the MTHFR gene issue...hoping like heck it would help with depression. However I have been on..SSRI's, SNRI's, MAOI'S anti psycotics, name the drug for depression, or augmenting with another, I've been on it. I received samples of "Deplin" which many of you already know about "Deplin but at least with my samples that I was given it was 15 mg L-methlfolate. When samples ran out..I ordered "Thorne" because (and another reason I refused to rate it low) it has historically been a very great company in my opinion. It could be me, it could be the fact I'm on so much other stuff that it's not doing what I'd love to experience like many that have said about it and/or deplin that it "helped significantly with depression"..and a biggie I hoped for I heard it helped with "motivation and energy" not I. I'm not giving up on it, not yet anyway. and I hope to submit a less pessimistic post soon. Though I've given it over three months...and to reiterate, I'm on so much stuff, that the "stuff" may be keeping 5 MTHF (3 per day) from doing the miraculous, as it has for others...I'm very happy for the "others" just on a huge "pity party" for me..because again, again and again...I hope.."this may be the one that helps me get ANYTHING accomplished.." be it crappy things or things I WANT, NEED to do...ANYTHING! So, I attempted a post in that, perhaps I can honestly say (though I have been most lengthy about it) I am not experiencing awesomeness, but perhaps a future post will say "hey, it's wonderful, hang in there any and everybody!" I hope so!

I have severe chronic fatigue and Lyme Disease, I also have the MTHFR mutation, since the genetic defect was diagnosed about 2 years ago I have tried pretty much every methyl folate product out there, my conclusion is that although expensive Thorne 5- mthf is absolutely the best supplement available to treat us mutants. My energy level and focus improves when I'm taking this, my stiffness and joint pain decreases, and my anxiety decreases. If you choose to supplement with this product it's important to start at a low dose, I would recommend starting with the 1 mg dose and gradually working your way up to the 5, you could make yourself sick otherwise as your body may not be able to handle such a big increase in folate all at once. It is also important to take a high quality B- complex supplement like Integrative Therapeutics multi B along with this as your body will need all of the other forms of vitamin B in order to properly absorb and burn methyl folate. My fertility specialist recommended I take this medicine as part of my infertility treatment. It is made with methylated folate which is a type of folic acid from what I understand. I was told I should take this specific brand by my doctor because it seems to increase the odds of a healthy pregnancy, especially for women who have MTHFR gene mutation. Although I was tested and found not to have this gene mutation there are ongoing studies that seem to indicate that taking this particular medicine (and brand) has increased healthy pregnancies for women who do not have the MTHFR gene, probably because it has that specialize folate that most prenatal vitamins seem to lack.
