Review: great for the reluctant reader - My 12 year old son is not a consistent reader, as he prefers sports and other physical activities. But we all know that reading is essential for kids and although he gets straight As, I still want him building his vocabulary and imagination through reading. Enter this book and my son can't put it down... he even brings it in the car with us and regales us with the weird historical facts contained within it. And yes, some of the stuff is majorly strange which is what basically keeps his interest. There are tons of pages, too, so lots of info for him to pour over, and much of it is humorous which completely keeps his interest. A great gift for any upper elementary/ middle schooler!

great for the reluctant reader
My 12 year old son is not a consistent reader, as he prefers sports and other physical activities. But we all know that reading is essential for kids and although he gets straight As, I still want him building his vocabulary and imagination through reading. Enter this book and my son can't put it down... he even brings it in the car with us and regales us with the weird historical facts contained within it. And yes, some of the stuff is majorly strange which is what basically keeps his interest. There are tons of pages, too, so lots of info for him to pour over, and much of it is humorous which completely keeps his interest. A great gift for any upper elementary/ middle schooler!

A trip through so much
Fun read. Learned a lot I would recommend it to a mature reader. Humanity has done some gruesome things. It’s part of history along with great things. All among the stories included in this book.

Worth Reading in Any Room
This was a delightful romp into the weird, the silly and the really interesting. I ended up reading about half of them out loud to a friend just to share how interesting their individual facts were. I found out the origins of at least a dozen things I'd never known before from other places. For example, when I saw the musical, "Cats," on verse of a song mentioned Duck Whittington. Not being British, I had no clue who he was. Now I know he was the mayor of London who was thought to have a magic cat who was responsible for using magic to get Whittington his job. What a cool story from history! Or how about learning that the first Thanksgiving actually happened in Texas in May of 1541, not November 1692 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. It's terrific to know I'd be the same kind of problem parent my father was, telling my kid facts that contradict the teachers right and left! (LOL) This is a very handy book to keep around.

Bought as a Christmas present for my daughter who loves history. Full of fun and strange facts. Great price.

Trouble reading on a Kindle
I bought this to read on my Kindle. I was enjoying it when it suddenly kept going back to the Table of Contents and then starting over. There were certain parts of the book I could never get it to show me! I enjoy these types of books, but this was the first time my Kindle may not have! I wish the Kindle version wasn't messed up!

Neat add on gift
Got this as a add on christmas gift. It has more pages than I expected and neat random facts. Its fun to read and discuss the facts with a friend. I might buy one for myself. I'm not sure if its all 100% true but part of the fun is debting the facts with a friend.

Great read for the guys
I bought this for the dad but I ended up borrowing it myself. I love the small reads on history and fun facts. It is a great book for the light reader like myself. I enjoyed it and I wish there were other books like this I could get my hands on.
