What is the ply, or how thick?

Very thin. I was hoping for the thick ones like they use to make back in the 60's. They shrink big time. I have turned them into kitchen cloths. Dishes, windows and floors.

Do these get softer when you wash them?

These are the best diapers. I used them for 3 babies and 1 of my grandbabies. The more you wash them, the softer they get. I kept them, and have used the same ones for each baby and then for the world's best kitchen towels. Also, babies who wear cloth diapers potty train much easier and faster.

Does anyone know the gsm on these?

I do not know the specific gsm, however the 20 ok Gerber birdseye cloth diapers I ordered were very thin, almost cheesecloth in thickness when layers completely flat.
