I needed to cover the furnace intake and outlet because my kids kept dropping things in the pipes. These caps are the perfect solution.

Perfect for 2" dia. vent & exhaust pvc piping on the outside ends on condensing style furnaces & water heaters. Just check to see if your pipes have an elbow or coupler on the end, and tap one of these right into the fitting's end. 1. The stainless steel mesh can't be cut by insects, won't corrode. 2. Putting the screen side closest to the end discourages insects from sheltering there. 3. Once in, they are a bear to remove, even if they aren't glued. 4. Excellent design and solid construction. My plumber originally installed a 3/4" pvc grid screen on on my pipe ends, plenty good enough for birds. But later he mentioned that during our local miller-moth bug season, customers sometimes call for service because the moths can plug the "innards" of a tankless water heater. One look at these stainless screen fittings, and I put them on on all my through-the outside wall mechanical pipes. LIKE THEM!

The screen is a good size at 1/8", which is small enough to keep out honey bees and wasps. The screen is adhered well to the PVC. The item looks well made. I had to return it because it was too big for what I needed: I had a 1" drain line, from a water heater drain pan, terminating at just outside of my garage. This was the only item I could find at first, but to make it work I would have had to use a reducer and a coupler thus adding bulk. I decided to make my own 1" screened coupling instead, before finding one on a plumbing supply website. I took one star off because if I had the 2" vent or drain that this item was intended for, I would have needed a 2" coupling in addition. This item is the same size as 2" pipe instead of 2" coupling. If they had made it the same size as a coupling, you'd be able to just add it on to the end of your 2" vent.

Had frogs dropping in roof vent stack pipe and then making their way into the toilet. Needless to say, VERY unsettling! Used this vent screen piece to place in an elbow pvc pipe (2 inch) and then attached to a very short straight, 2 inch PVC pipe piece about 3" long with another 2" PVC elbow on opposite end. Sort of looked like an old style phone! Had it placed on current vent pipe on roof W/OUT gluing it together - this was suggested (No Glue) in case it had to be removed at some point. Could avoid cutting it all apart if not glued together or glued to vent pipe. It went together firmly and tightly and the pvc screen (the item listed here) fit snuggly and tightly inside PVC elbow (elbow and straight PVC piece bought at local hardware store - elbows sold here were too small/short and not angled correctly. IN the end, the entire contraption makes the vent pipe coming out of the roof look like a candy can shape. This shape allows proper air flow without allowing leaves, snow or ice to clog on top of the screen. The screen piece has a small channel that will allow fluid to flow out in case condensation builds up. No frogs or slithery things can enter the pipe. wasps nests can easily be knocked off if they choose to build on it - just angle the screen/opening toward roof edge so you can see it and reach it.

Easy to install. Very nice product.

Needed a little sanding to fit. I chose NOT to glue it and make it permanent. Used a couple of screws to keep in place and now its removable. Keeps the bees and rodents out. So much better than the plastic screen from the big box stores. Would buy again.
