Carbide blades and crossed ceramic rods feature pre-set sharpening angles that provide the proper sharpening angle every time. Carbide blades (Coarse) provide quick edge-setting capabilities, and the ceramic rods (Fine) are used for the final edge honing. These two stages offer the capability to put a razor-sharp edge on very dull or damaged blades and touch up already sharp blades. It comes with non-slip rubber feet and a soft grip rubber handle for comfort and steadiness when sharpening. The patented V-Grip™ bottom allows for added stability and comfort when using the sharpener on the edge of your countertop or table.

Review: Sharp Enough to Slice Through Reality (or at Least Your Veggies) - This Knife Sharpener is one of those kitchen gadgets that makes you feel like a culinary superhero, without the spandex. Stage 1 effortlessly tackles dull knives like it’s a mini construction crew for your blades, and Stage 2 puts the finishing edge on so smooth you half-expect your veggies to salute before being chopped. I’ve used it on everything from butter knives (don’t judge me) to my chef’s knife, and it’s surprisingly satisfying to hear that “shhhhk” as the blade glides through the sharpener. The grip keeps your hands safe, which is great because I like my fingers attached, thank you very much. It’s compact, easy to use, and turns a chore into a tiny victory moment every time you sharpen. If you’ve ever dreamed of being the person who can slice tomatoes paper-thin without effort, this is your gadget. Sharp knives, happy chef, zero regrets. Works fast too!
Review: Works as described! - Works as described! Sharpens my knife well. I was able to cut meat and chicken easily after using this.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this work on serrated blades?**
A: According to the package, you can sharpen serrated blades on the fine side of the sharpener only. However, I would use a serrated combo knife sharpener like this (http://www.amazon.com/Lansky-3143-PS-MED01-BladeMedic/dp/B0085PPSIQ/ref=pd_sim_200_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=41SK1bQyxRL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1XY4G6XQJ5VC3THHF9XZ), which handles almost all sharpening tasks. Honestly, the only thing I use serrated blades for is cutting tomatoes and grapes. A serrated edge bites into the tough skin without mashing the delicate fruit and is best when making tomato skin rosettes. I have a great (and inexpensive) Rada tomato knife for that. That way, if it does get dull, I can easily buy a new one. A well-honed blade will cut through everything else easy-peasy.

**Q: Can this be used for Japanese knives, which use a 16-17 degree angle as opposed to a 20-22 degree angle? I don't want to ruin my Shun. Thanks.**
A: most knifes are at 15de. not 16 or 17. please check with Buck Knifes and see for your self. never the less after using this sharpener for some time the knife will be at 15 de. Have fun

**Q: can I sharpen scissors with it?**
A: Don't even try it unless you want to ruin your scissors! Scissors are considered shears with the sharpened bevel on opposite sides of each blade. Use this sharpener and your scissors may never cut again. In the past, I did jobs using a precision scissors sharpening machine for a commercial drapery company.

**Q: Is this work better than conventional Sharpening Steel?**
A: Sharpening steel doesn't remove material from the knife, therefore if a knife is dull, steel will not be able to make it sharp again. The main purpose of the steel is to "shape" the edge of the knife by deforming material along the knife edge to smooth it out.
I found this KitchenIQ 50009 is the easiest and cheapest solution to sharpen the knife. However, this tool is designed for the right-handed people in mind. If you are left handed, it'd be a little awkward to use. You need to place this tool on a stable surface and hold it with your left hand. Place the knife in the coarse slot, nearest to the handle, apply little pressure down and pull the knife toward you. (Too much pressure can gouge you knife due to uneven material removal.) Lift the knife up and repeat as many times as you want until you can cut a piece of paper with ease. You should see some metal shaving in this step. Once the knife is sharp, you can use the other slot or steel to hone the knife edge to smooth it out.

Works as described! Sharpens my knife well. I was able to cut meat and chicken easily after using this.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good for quick, coarse sharpening
*by Z***L on February 19, 2019*

I'm not a huge fan of inexpensive sharpeners. I prefer to use a stone to set the bevel of the blade, and follow it with a honing on an MDF wheel loaded with polishing compound. This produces an edge that will shave hairs, but it takes time. The end result was that I put it off, then I fight dull knives in the kitchen. A dull knife can be more dangerous than a sharp knife because the amount of force needed to get it to cut is higher. I wanted something that would make my kitchen knives reasonably sharp with just a few quick swipes. I decided $6 wasn't much of a gamble so I bought this thing. The coarse sharpener works fine. A few quick swipes will put a reasonably good, symmetric edge on my kitchen knives. The edge is a little rough, but it's sharp enough for most kitchen tasks and it only takes a few seconds. Running a knife through three or four times will produce a small pile of metal shavings under the carbide blades, so it is definitely removing material. The fine ceramic sharpener doesn't do much to remove the scratches left by the coarse carbide inserts-- it's TOO fine, at least on the one that I got. On mine, the ceramic stones loaded up with material almost instantly. They are now glazed and do nothing except lightly burnish the cutting edge. Better than nothing, I suppose, but they don't do much in the way of actual honing. In short, this sharpener does what it's supposed to do. It gets a kitchen knife reasonably sharp with two or three swipes, and it removes the temptation to bludgeon my way through an onion or a piece of beef with a dull blade. It won't produce a really keen edge like a good stone and polish, but I rarely need a knife that sharp for ordinary kitchen work. Definitely worth the $6.
