Great knife sharpener
I just received my Presto knife sharpener, and immediately tried it out, as I happened to have some free time. I admit that our knives are not well cared for. In their 5 or 6 years of use, I think we've had them sharpened twice - both times at a knife shop that charges a couple bucks per blade. Obviously, our knives don't stay sharp very long! I finally decided I was sick of dull knives and figured it would be safer and make us more efficient in the kitchen if I would get a sharpener. I didn't want the hassle of hand sharpening, and clearly, given my past history with using dull knives, I'm not going to be caught up about a razor edge the way a purist might be. The package arrived in great shape, packaged by Amazon along with several other items in the same box. The sharpener was well padded and wrapped in plastic. The directions are easy to understand. The unit feels like it is solidly built. Mine doesn't rattle, for instance. But, the plastic they chose to use has a rough feel to it, almost like they wanted the top to mimic the feel of a grinding stone - who knows, maybe that's exactly what they were going for. Either way, I wouldn't want to drop it, but it appears and feels like it will hold up to regular use just fine. The on/off switch and whatever it connects to make for a solid feel when turning the unit on and off. The cord is somewhat short (~30 inches), but not short enough to take off a star. Assuming you're using it on a kitchen counter (as I did), it's plenty long. But, if you wanted to sit at a table and sharpen your knives you'd probably need an extension cord. I sharpened a number of knives, from paring knives all the way up to chef's knives, and in each case this sharpener made a noticeable difference. I will probably sharpen them again using the whole proscribed method since they were so dull. But, after just one sharpening, three times through both sides, I am impressed. I tried cutting the edge of a piece of cardboard and a piece of paper with each knife before and after sharpening, and each case it made a huge difference. I also tested some of the edges on a carrot. In every case, the dull knives required much more force on the carrot. Afterwards, the cutting action on the carrot was smooth and more of a cut than a "chop" - I could draw the knife across the carrot instead of relying on downforce to split the carrot. The paper and cardboard cut was night and day. A few knives did nothing to the paper or cardboard before sharpening and all cut at least something afterwards. I say something because none of the knives cut like a razor blade does, but again, my knives were in bad shape to start with, so all in all I am calling it a success. I did use the suction cups on the bottom, and they stayed in place for the duration of the time I used the machine. It does make a vibrating/whirring sound when it is turned on, and naturally, it makes a grinding noise when using it. I did notice that some knives hop and skip a bit when pulling them through the sharpener, but I think that has more to do with my technique than the sharpener itself. You can't (and shouldn't) use too much downforce when pulling the knives through, as it will slow or even stop the grinding wheel. I did that on my first test knife...fortunately I was smart enough to use one of my lesser quality knives in case I made a mistake. This works best with just a tiny amount pressure - just enough to keep the knife against the edge. I did sharpen two serrated steak knives with the sharpener, and I was impressed by the results there too. The instructions for serrated sharpening were a little confusing until I had the knife in my hand, looking at it. My steak knives are only serrated on one side, which is the type that the Presto can sharpen. If they had edges on both sides, this sharpener apparently doesn't work. But, with the one sided edge variety of serrated knives, you pass the blade through so that the sharpened edge makes contact with the stone, and it sharpens it nicely. The angle of the wheel in the Presto is "steeper" than the factory edge was, so that after sharpening, the shiny part where the wheel made contact made it appear that I dramatically shortened the "teeth" of the serrated knife. But, upon closer inspection and comparison with an unsharpened identical knife I realized it is mainly an optical illusion. I'm sure there is a small amount of loss, but not nearly what I thought there was just looking at it with a quick glance. Again, I'm not a purist, but I am very pleased with the job the Presto has done right out of the box. Now it's time to go watch my wife cook dinner and see how long it takes her to notice that her knives are sharp again!

Super Easy Electric Knife Sharpener, Works Amazingly Well
I can’t believe how well this electric knife sharpener works! I’ve been struggling with cheap manual sharpeners for years—they took forever, wore my hands out, and honestly never got my knives truly sharp anyway. This electric one is a total upgrade in every way. It has two clear sharpening slots, Level 1 and Level 2, super easy to tell apart and simple to operate even if you’ve never used a sharpener before. What surprises me the most is how fast it is. I just run my dull kitchen knife through it, and it only takes about 1–2 minutes tops. Those knives that were so blunt they could barely cut vegetables are now razor-sharp, slicing through tomatoes, meat and bread effortlessly with zero effort on my part. It’s lightweight, compact, doesn’t take up much counter space, and runs smoothly without any loud annoying noise. No more straining my arms with manual sharpeners, no more putting up with dull kitchen tools. If you’re tired of struggling with blunt knives and old-fashioned manual sharpeners, this electric sharpener is absolutely worth every penny. It’s now a must-have kitchen gadget in my household, I would definitely recommend it to anyone!

good value, fast, easy.
Sharpens quickly and well. This has two grinding wheels that put a 20 degree edge on steel knives. Most of my dull kitchen knives were sharp again with 3-4 passes through the fine wheel (right side). It took about a minute for each knife. In my case, I had 20-30 knives that had never been sharpened in 30 years, Pro sharpening services charge about $5 per knife, or $1-2 per inch of blade. I didn't want to pay $150 to sharpen knives once. I have sharpening stones, but didn't want to take the time or mess of doing it myself. So with this, I paid less than $40 and was able to sharpen all my knives in 30-40 minutes. It's not a fine polished razor edge, but it's great for most kitchen knives. Win. Works for steel knives - not ceramic. Works for 20 degree knives, which a common edge for inexpensive knives. Some high-quality knives are 15-17 degrees - They require a different sharpener. Worked for all the knives I had from paring to large. The coarse wheel will grind out nicks and chips or reprofile a blade to 20 degrees. My knives didn't need that. The Fine wheel puts on a sharp edge, It's not super fine and leaves a significant burr. Use a finer stone or a honing rod to remove the burr. I did not have any issues with burning or removing the temper from the metal.

Excellent, beyond my expectations.
It really did sharpen my knives well, fast and easy. I never expected it to be so easy or sharpen my knives so quickly. All my life I have struggled just to keep my knives sharp enough. I’ve bought several knife sharpeners over time. NONE worked as this one does. It even sharpened my knife that is to be professionally sharpened. Perhaps it is because they predetermine the angle for us??? At any rate, this sharpener works and I could not be more pleased. And it is inexpensive, too.!

really surprised by the performance
The best sharpener I have ever had, and at a fantastic price. Sharpened every knife that I had with excellent results. You wouldn't want a kitchen knife any sharper than this unit can give. A knife that is razor sharp (I hone my diving knife to this kind of an edge that I can shave with), dulls extremely quick to a "great" edge in no-time. As someone that is a gadget fanatic and loves sharpening knives to razor sharpness, there are a few secrets to getting a fantastic edge. First of all "take your time". Then let the weight of the knife do the work, and DON'T push down on the blade more than a couple of ounces when sharpening. It will destroy an expensive knife in a heart beat. The weight of the knife will be enough force to sharpen it against the stone unless it is a small paring knife. IT JUST TAKES A LITTLE LONGER. If you are pushing down on the blade with enough force to stop the motor, you are tearing the edge apart. This will cause nicks, gouges and overheat the blade. My wife bought this beautiful stainless steel "designer" knife that was so dull that you couldn't cut anything with it. I couldn't even sharpen it on a stone because of the hardness of the metal. It sat in the drawer for the last two years. And it was big bucks too. After 10 minutes with this sharpener, taking my time, it now has a fantastic edge. Both sides of the blade are tapered perfectly without any nicks or gouges. It takes about ten seconds to touch it up when needed. Just remember to let the sharpener to the work, and DON'T be in a hurry. The LIGHT strokes will give you an extremely sharp knife.

Sharp Knives in Short Time!
I love this new gadget! Use directions included to create a kitchen full of sharp knife-ware, from steak knives to your favorite cutting and dicing cutlery. At first, I must admit, I did not read the instructions and did not get good results. I was about to send back but I knew I had not done my homework. Ut Oh!! So, I read the instructions. I followed the directions! And... voila! Works beautifully. My kitchen knives were all sharpened in a very short time. I am very happy with the results. As with most sharpeners, this one does not do serrated edges and does not do scissors. For this check out trying a Whetstone (manual method). I gladly recommend this product for its great, simple instructions and for quality sharpening in a fraction of time from manual sharpening.

Works, but not the best edge
I am a Chef and I obviously use my knives more than most people. I also spend a LOT of money on buying quality knives ($75-150 each). The Presto 08800 EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener does what it says, it sharpens your knife, for that I give it 3 stars. Some points to ponder - Although it is easy to use, and sharpens quickly, it can be a little sensetive. You must not apply ANY pressure while sharpening. Doing so will bog the motor down and stop the stones in the middle of your knife. - They are course grit stones.....They eat away material quickly!!! I would try it on an old knife first. - It leaves a really bad bur. You may need to take it to a hand stone or strop to get it off if it bothers you. - The guides work, but the stones have a different angle and may pick it up off the guide a little. - Motor is not loud at all. Sharpening your knife is!!! - Gets knives as dull as butter knives sharp sharp sharp!! I did it to a 30 year old Chicago Cutlery knife that looked like it had never been sharpened, and it came out with a good edge. The Chicago knife used a VERY hard steel. I could not even get an edge with my wet stone! Now with the electric sharpener putting a good edge on it, I can make it even better with my wet stones. Like I said, I am a Chef and would not use them on my personal knives, i am sticking to wet stones for those, but I have taken the sharpener to work and sharpened the 14 knives we have in under 15 min! They stay sharp for a long time, and it is much faster than doing it by hand. So......I would say no for your expensive set of knives, but yes for a set that you did not pay much for. The sharpener just does not have a fine enough stone fore my liking. The best part of this product is the price. I would say best sharpener for the price.

This compact and easy-to-use sharpener works wonders, restoring my dull knives to like-new sharpness in just a few minutes. The 2-stage sharpening system ensures that my knives get a perfect edge every time—Stage 1 is for coarse sharpening, and Stage 2 is for fine honing. I love how fast and convenient it is. No more struggling with manual sharpening or messing around with stones. The machine is quiet, stable, and doesn’t take up much counter space. The sharpness it delivers is impressive; even my oldest, most worn-out knives are now cutting through food with ease. It’s also super safe to use, with non-slip feet and simple instructions.
