This Thinkdiag device can help tremendously with your car diagnostic
This Thinkdiag device is amazing! The item was well packaged and also fits in a some sort of a cushion inside the box. It appears to be strong and connects flawlessly. I Installed the Thinkdiag+ app, created an account, and activated the device with the information included in the box. Then, I plugged the device in the OBD port of my car and I was able to see things that I did not know existed even though there is currently no CEL on my car dashboard. I was able to know exactly which tires are responsible for the TPMS light and also the state of the batteries and sensors. I also looked at some live data for my evap system and graphed some of them for better understanding. The Thinkdiag showed that the O2 sensors are working just fine and that the catalytic converter may be failing. The tool even showed the temperatures in and out of the catalytic converter which is very important in knowing its efficiency. I did not notice any connection issue and the speed was good in my case. This tool can be for beginners, intermediate, or advance DIYers. If you are new to this, take time to read the messages that appear on the screen when you request a function. If you are not sure, just don’t continue and go do some research on the topic if needed since this device gives you advanced access to your car vehicle computer. I think this is money well spent and its cost is actually less than the diagnostic fee from any dealership. This device can actually program additional keys for your vehicle and remove old keys depending on which car you drive. If you own a Honda or a Toyota, you know how much it costs for an extra key from the dealer. All in all, I think buying this device was a good investment even if you use it for one or two car diagnostics or simply to program a key/remote. The only downside is that there is a subscription fee after the free year for the reset services and the systems. If you don’t renew, the reset functions and all systems will go away, but you will still be able to use the OBD function and even see some live data. The renewal options are not very clear or efficiently structured in my opinion. It is as if it would make more sense to get another device with a free year instead of renewing the full package. Even the cost to renew one reset service seems a little overboard in my opinion, but I trust that they know what they are doing and I am not trying to tell them how to run their business. If this was an option, my rating would actually be 4.5 out 5 because of that. However, the device performed well and it provided me with the info needed. Depending on your needs and how much you know or willing to learn about car data, this may be a good tool to have in your glove box.

Wow, just buy this tool you won't be sorry
For those who like it when someone gets straight to the point yes you should buy this scan tool, keep reading and I'll tell you why. I've been in automotive repair for 26 years and this is by far the most scan tool for the least amount of cash I've ever owned. I would classify scan tools in the following way: 1. A code reader (capable of pulling codes from the main computer of a vehicle and looking at basic data). 2. An entry level scanner (capable of reading multiple modules and possibly doing some reset features). 3. A bi-directional scan tool (capable of reading all modules and performing all sorts of resets and calibrations) 4. A full featured scan tool with all the bells and whistles possibly having an oscilloscope or other attachments. This scanner is firmly planted in the 3rd category and is very capable of diagnosing even very difficult problems. The Thinkdiag would be useable by people at all levels of automotive understanding from the DIY weekend warrior to a seasoned diagnostician. Now for what most people want to know yes this tool can scan every module (assuming the module is communicating) and has bi-directional tests for almost all of them. The data stream has selectable data so you can select all or just a few data PIDs (parameter ids) and the refresh rate was very good even with multiple PIDs selected at once. The graphing is good but doesn't yet reach the level of great. Graphs have the line trace as well as the value in large print at the top and they are scaleable for time and voltage so zooming in and out is as easy as possible. You can combine multiple graphs at once as you need to do many times while diagnosing how two sensors react at the same time or how something affects another part of the vehicle. The bi-directional tests have good controls and you can add data from the data stream to see how something is affected by controlling it on and off. I have used this feature many times and it adds so much to the scanner's abilities. I have found a couple of instances where a test won't function as I hoped but this happens with all scan tools even ones that cost multiple thousands of dollars. As far as setting up the Thinkdiag connected to my phone easily with bluetooth and as soon as the diagnostic software downloaded (don't get worried it took a little bit on this part) it was able to jump right into full functionality. It scanned for the VIN and then performed a health report which was organized very well. I emailed the report to myself and it looks great so for anyone doing this in a professional setting sending this to a customer or saving it for their own records it will look top notch. The user interface is laid out very well and menus are very easy to navigate. Many times the software will help with selections either being labeled with more than an acronym so that if you don't know that SCCM is for the steering the tool tells you. I don't see any downsides to this tool. Much of the time when buying a scan tool there are trade-offs where you justify the trade-off with the price of the tool but this tool takes on other tools that are easily ten times it's price range (Autel, Launch, Zurich, Snap-on, and Matco) and it just flat out performs right there on their level at a tiny fraction of the price. Now, you do have to do yearly updates to maintain the Thinkdiag's functionality but even if I had to buy a new one each year I would have to buy this tool many times over to come close to the prices of its cheapest competitors. In short, buy this tool and don't look back this is a game changer for sure.

Great product with semi pro functions
This scanner is superior to others. This has semi pro functions, that enable you to diagnose and repair, without the costly fees that come with taking your vehicle to a shop. It covers a wide range of compatible vehicles.... If you go to thinkcar(dot)com/coveragetk/all you can check to verify this product is compatible with you vehicle.

Can be challenging to interpret, customer service is the worst
There are some things that are intuitive and some are not at all. I've reached out on several questions and only received one response with a very convoluted answer. Either they don't know what their machine can and can't do or they don't speak English. Needless to say, only buy this if you feel you can get by with no customer service. On the pro side, I was able to use some features like diagnosing cylinder misfire. Although, even that is pretty messed up. On the diagnoses it shows cylinders 0 - 11. So is 0 cylinder 1? Eventually the engine threw a code for one cylinder misfiring repeatedly. Fortunately the engine code indicated the correct cylinder. It was number 11 and the Thinkdiag showed number 10 as the culprit. Another interesting flaw to share, despite using the correct VIN and the Thinkdiag identifying the car as a 2007 Aston Martin DB9, when looking for the rail pressures it looks for a MY08 and then can't read the pressure. How can it know its a MY07 but then try to read rail pressure for a MY08? And since the engines are identical, why can't it read it despite the MY issue? On the good side, it does a nice job of identifying engine codes and has the ability to track down more detail on most of them. Since this requires a yearly subscription I will definitely not renew and instead just purchase a Foxwell NT510 where it has almost all of the same capabilities and no annual fee. I'd encourage anyone looking at this ODB reader to do the same and go Foxwell. I think you'll save yourself a lot of headaches.

Don't hit ok if you don't understand
Do not hit reset or proceed if you do not understand what will be happening next, perform tests while in park, in a garage/bay, drive-way, or parking lot. Some tests can make vehicles perform abnormally for moments, this is unsafe while driving. This a not a beginner device, it has the ability to perform actions that may result in unknown configurations. It is designed to generate reset values and manufacture standards upon removal. (Can perform brake actions while in motion, heavy control abled.) With ease of saying this device is definitely a 4 to 5 star with options that exceed expectation. It has all the functions of my LAUNCH CR529, Bluetooth, ease of recording and sharing. The video doesn’t go into grand detail however for a quick demonstration it operates quickly and is fairly straightforward. To include yes, after one year there are subscription costs to enable manufacture diagnostics, such as GM or Audi. There isn’t an expiration date on the maintenance icons so I don’t have a reason to believe they will lock after a year, just that I will have to pay for my manufacture unlock. There is a firmware update, however I see no expiration dates attached. This would be my drawback referral as that the expiration's aren’t clear except for the manufacture(sold as a one year update for firmware. Received an email that cost are per maintenance reset as well, there are $99+ full offers after one year.) Compared to data reading, there hasn’t been a direct indication that it is available in graph readout- CR529 shows in graph form with no control options(I attempted to use data stream, gave me an ECU if equipped; may need to try another component, it acted/mentioned as how the freeze frame isn't available per vehicle- will try again). Ample control over solenoids, actuators and test/maintenance cycling, have not found something it does not control(except my radio/amp). Does not send fault codes from none engine components to PCM/ECM storage, they are direct find and read. When doing emission test values, it will to attempt to run the test(will perform an EVAP test on request), although, it will abort if the conditions are not suitable without resetting the monitors(++). Telling it to clear fault codes for A/C HVAC or ABS won’t reset the I/M readiness either(++); does not hide faults, just saves them in app to be re-read when unattached. If income to purchase software updates later is an issue and the goal is for only 1-2 manufactures there is a play to earn scenario, send in a report get a 1point==1dollar redemption in-store purchase. Sort of like uber/jump bicycles, where if you find a low charged one they will credit so much spendable money to your account upon return. Such as this review is going to generate 20 points of redemption after posting and proof of screenshot. This is the function of the app, there is no requirement to leave a 5-star review. The others are daily sign-in, seems to have gift days or bonus sign-in daily; sending in a I/M ready report; etc. The sign-in and activation went effortlessly, except no special characters in password that I can find(Use a longer random case generation to be safe, does keep signed in after registration). The device plugged in and paired with my LGv40 with ease, been able to update firmware both through WiFi and 4gLTE. Kaspersky mobile, Acronis mobile and Native Lookout have not drawn any flags nor did it fail to install. Mainly a lot of access for a small plugNplay Bluetooth platform, gets rid of the wires and hassle. Was able to verify shift times and transmission data without any code flashbacks. The app is in plain font, not sure why other reviews have a cursive/cavolini style. Having trouble with some of the sit and navigate, with respect if it can find the ECU it will offer both auto and manual resets and operations. Thought the three choice option on home screen was too cumbersome, it could be split up-more from the get go, opinion. 6.8GB app with full access. Used on a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban Southern Comfort edition. Found a non-engine Ground Fault and generated codes for it. Diagnostic at my local dealership for any system with or without a solution is $175 base. In the video I said VIN re-code, meant to say decode. It will not re-code your Vin, it does have the ability to re-pass manufacture settings.

Great tool - great buy - Update
Purchased this to address ECM memory issue with Subaru. Certain engine codes get stuck in ECM memory and cannot be cleared. Well documented on YouTube. This tool had the Special Function->Test Mode Change that allowed clearing of the memory!! Local shops did the original repairs and could not clear the codes. This shows the real time VVT data and other data for you to diagnose the problems. Shops will charge you $120 just to connect their system. This tool is a bargain. The installation was simple. Download the app. Plug in the fob and it worked immediately. I used it on my iPhone. Not so clear on what happens after the 1 yr subscription runs out. But for some special function that standard OBD scanners cannot do it would be worth the purchase of another year. Highly recommended. Update 29Dec2025: this little guy came through again for 2017 Subaru Crosstrek. ABS, Hill Assist, and Traction control lights all on. Usually this is the brake light switch but that was repaired with a recall. These light are not the MIL lights so you can’t just reset them or even see the codes. Plugged this guy in and zeroed in on a bad wheel speed sensor - wire damaged. As I thought but which one? Using real time data confirmed the code as it provided the readings from all 4. Fixed -$20 part. The hardest part was taking off the wheel. This little guy amazes every time I use it. Powerful with access to many systems.

Great tool to add to the arsenal!
I purchased this tool last week and I have got to say it has definitely earned a place in my toolbox. The app was easy to download, the instructions included in the box allowed me to seamlessly connect the Thinkdiag to my iPhone. I downloaded the software I needed and was able to talk to all the vehicle systems. I am a 20 year Automotive Technician and this tool will probably be my first grab for health reports. No need to lug out the laptop or tablet scan tools, this tool connects to all the vehicle computers. I was able to successfully diagnose an ABS master cylinder sensor issue by looking at live data in the data stream. The update speed when looking at 1 or 2 pids is lightening fast. I couldn't even tell a delay. Pros -small, compact, easy to use, powerful tool in your hand, access to all systems -easy to save data, record data, snap shot or pdf from your phone. -full functionality Cons -sometimes disconnects if you lock your phone or need to take a phone call -not super fast to get connected to the car (not as slow as some snapon tools) -easy to loose/leave in a car The biggest thing I would try to improve would be to have a spot for a tether off the interface. It's low cost enough that I feel its a must for a technician, especially someone starting out and doesn't have the money to purchase a full fledged tablet device.

Works great for 2008 Honda Pilot / Lacking for 2015 BMW 4-series
I bought this to help diagnose an issue with my 2008 Honda Pilot ABS system. I had an ABS/VTC light that would come and go. Blink codes were not helpful as there were several old saved codes and I had no way to erase them and figure out which was current. With the ThinkDiag I was able to read and clear all of the erroneous stored codes and then read and diagnose the only remaining code after a short drive. So I thought I might try this nifty little gadget on my 2015 BMW 428i as well and that is where the problems started. Despite being able to connect to DME and read the VIN, ThinkDiag was unable to initiate the diagnostic software for the BMW. After several days of waiting for an answer from technical support I was informed that BMW diagnostic software does not work with Android 12. I found an old tablet that still had Android 11 and was finally able to initiate the software and read/clear codes from all the identified modules. Side Note: Why is this developer taking so long to fix Android 12/ BMW connectivity issue? Android 12 has been out for over a half a year... This unit is advertised as able to program/code ECU modules to "flash hidden features" which is fairly common with BMWs and a popular upgrade for F-series cars. I attempted to do this with my BMW only to find that the mode was "Current Function Not Supported Temporarily" After another handful of time-wasting diagnostic logs and screenshots requested by tech support. Support finally admitted that "Per our engineer, I'm afraid that the F chassis coding function is not support by ThinkDiag" and I was then suggested that I buy a $5000 standalone scanner unit from ThinkCar to accomplish what a $60 dongle from a competitor can easily do. So in summary, in my experience, this unit works well for older Asian vehicles, but stick with the common options for coding and working with newer German cars.

Absoloutly the least expensive scanner with the full functionality of a $6000 scanner
Updated: The Thinkdiag works very well and has all of the options you could ever need ...... For the first year. Five stars for the first year. After that first year it basically turns into a basic code reader. Every module you try to use after that year, you will need to pay for each module individually. UPDATE: I RECENTLY FOUND THAT YOU CAN RENEW ALL LICENCES AT ONCE FOR A RELATIVELY LOW COST. This scanner has now saved me many $$ . I have tested it side by side with scanners that the dealership use and found it to be equal to them.
