How do you turn the plug on

It as a switch, after you plug it in you turn it off and on with the switch located on the cord away from the stove.

how long is the cord on the oven

It is not very long, if you've purchased a thermal stove like this before, the cords are usually not that long. I'd say it's maybe 3 and a half feet long.
