The cloth bag covers the mail slot, and it does a pretty good job at keeping the cold air from flowing into the hallway (you can feel the cold air if you touch the bag, but it isn't flowing into the room). And the bag catches all of the mail nice and neat (and you can retrieve it easily too). So now when we enter the house, we are not stepping on the mail, it's not crumpling up as the door drives over it, and the mail isn't getting wet from our messy boots.
