Cuisinart GR-5B Series Griddler Five

I really love this grill. I got it to replace a old George Forman grill that did not has removable plates. My first meal on it was turkey burgers. They were delicious and cooked in six minutes. It's remarkably easy to clean. I also found the ceramic waffle plates online for it so I was able to trash two older appliances.

My girlfriend and I picked this up, along with the waffle plates that fit it, and we're so happy with it. It works well as a contact grill (a la George Foreman) as well as a flat griddle and as a waffle maker. We've had success making eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles, grilled cheese, grilled asparagus, and other foods. Both top and bottom plates come off and are very easy to clean, and will both drip down into the grease tray which is on the bottom of the machine. The only downsides are that if you use the grill, you have to wait for it to cool down before you can clean it and use it as a griddle or vice versa. We also found that cleaning the grease tray was not the easiest, but that was primarily because grease is just generally hard to clean. Overall, we have been very happy with this purchase, and are likely to remain so for some time.

For years, I've gone back and forth on whether I should invest in a panini press or not. On one hand, it sounds awesome for when you want to make Reubens, or Cubans, but then I realized that I really don't make those items all that often and a panini press would likely gather much dust and occupy precious countertop space for most of the time. But, as usual, my desire for a new kitchen gadget overwhelmed my sense of reason, and I found myself browsing reviews for the best panini press. Oddly enough, most reviews I found highly recommended this Cuisanart Griddler Five as offering an economical panini press, with the value added ability to griddle and grill a variety of meals. All of a sudden, the benefit-value of a new kitchen gadget increased immensely as I dreamed not only of making awesome pressed sandwiches, but realized I could wow my family with all sorts of great entrees with the use of one handy dandy device.To say I'm impressed with this device might be an understatement. The quality of the griddler is good. It has a "heavy enough" feel to it to make it sturdy, but yet is lightweight enough to not require three people to maneuver it. Compact enough when folded for storage to take up only minimal space in a kitchen cabinet, but large enough to accommodate several large chicken breasts (when using the grill closed), burgers, sandwiches and steaks. The sear feature on the grill is awesome to get that initial sear on a steak, with the lowering of the temparture to a moderate 425 afterwards to finish cooking.All that, and it cooks good too! Everything we've made on the Griddler turns out well, There don't seem to be any "hot" versus "cold" spots so that everything cooks rather evenly; cooking times are halved when using the grill closed, and it makes great toasted sandwiches.Clean up is a breeze, with a dedicated oil pan to catch grease as it cooks. The stainless steel outer shell wipes clean easily and when using the grill closed, there is very little splatter when cooking (although when using it open, as you can imagine, their is more grease splatter). The grill plates are non-stick (like really non-stick) and clean up in a cinch.The controls are fairly easy and straightforward and I especially like the built in timer. Although perhaps the one "nit" that I'm not a fan of is if you need to adjust the temperature after starting a cook, I haven't found any other way to do it other than turning the unit off and then on again and restarting. That may be a "me" problem, but if there is a way, I haven't found it yet.All in all, we are extremely pleased with this little unit and highly recommend it.
