Selected Poems: Anne Sexton

Wonderful collection of Anne’s poetry.

I've always loved Anne Sexton's poetry. Her Kind, The Truth the Dead Know, Rats Live On No Evil Star, and many more,inspired me years ago to pick up my pen again! This collection is a great selection of her work. Some shorter work of hers impressed me as much as her longer, letterlike poems! Glad I bought this.

Book arrived on time and as advertised in good condition. The poems in this selection are particularly raw and open. This was my first experience with Anne Sexton and I felt close to her while reading this collection.

Sexton is one of a kind, special, immensely powerful. This collection draws from many of her books and provides insight into life, death, religion, femininity, and Anne herself. Deeply personal, The Selected Poems is both shockingly exquisite and terribly profound. You can almost feel her soft, dragging, emotional voice through all of the poems, and the experience renders one at a loss for words. Completely satisfied with my purchase. Both the cover and backside could have been of a better material, but that’s just nit-picking.

This is an excellent compendium of many of Anne Sexton's poems, excellently edited by Diane Middlebrook (who also wrote a deeply moving biography of the poet in 1991). Read Anne Sexton and feel more human!
