Havahart 100061157, X-Small 0745 One-Door Animal Trap for Chipmunk, Squirrel, Rat, Size

En mi caso lo compré por ratones medianos... como de las 6 noches que lo he puesto he atrapado 3 ratones... por lo que lo recomiendo bastante... es muy simple de instalar, aparte que lei en los comentarios que el infalible es con crema de cacahuate, lo que me dió excellentes resultados... el problema únicamente es matarlos... en mi caso me los llevo como 20 cuadras lejos de mi casa a liberarlos hahaha

This is, bar none, the best chipmunk trap. My garden was constantly being attacked by chipmunks, especially my lilies. Seems that the bulbs at the roots of the lilies are really tasty for the little critters and my garden was constantly dug up and my poor lilies dying. I considered other more dire methods of dealing with the problem but I'm not a fan of killing animals. The Havahart cage allowed me to capture the pesky buggers and "transplant" to a nearby wooded area. The trap is easy to set and bait (try sunflower seeds, chipmunks can't resist them). Placement of the trap is key, it has to be in a place where the chipmunk won't feel exposed, so along edges of flowerbeds or fences. We have caught no less than 21 chipmunks in 3 months and my flower beds are happier than ever. This trap was a great investment and the chipmunks, while unhappy, were completely unharmed and sent out of sight and out of mind. The construction of the trap is tough steel and the mechanism to set the trap is child's play. Highly recommended.

I had the trap set and baited with black sunflower seeds about half an hour after UPS delivered it. Caught the first of 2 VERY pesky chipmunks within about 15 minutes. The Havahart website says drive them at least 5 miles away so they don't return. Did that. Came back and reset the trap. Got the 2nd chipmunk within about 5 minutes. Woo hoo! Drove chipmunk #2 5.5 miles away to the same place I let out the first one. Got back home and reset the trap. Now I am waiting for "Porch Squirrel" to go inside the trap (Porch Squirrel is the one who tore a hole in the bottom of the screen on the front door so he could come into the house and yell at me to bring out more sunflower seeds. When I blocked that hole the cheeky little bugger made a 6" slit in the screen of the window next to the front door.) Once I get Porch Squirrel he'll go to the same lovely location as the 2 chipmunks (maybe they are pals). Then only the Woodshed Squirrel will be left to catch. I've had a lot of problems with the 2 squirrels and 2 chipmunks for the last couple of years. Who knew that I could humanely trap these cute but problematic little guys so quickly and easily? Wowser dowser! I'd give this trap 110 points if I could - both chipmunks within an hour of receiving the trap? Awesome!!! (and guilt free because I drove them to a release site that was far from a busy road and in an area where there would be a zillion places to make a new home because it is wooded with lots of undergrowth, and I let them both out at the same place so they could hook up with each other). Oh, and the manufacturer's website said to sterilize the trap with bleach/water between each critter trapped so they wouldn't smell "human scent" on the trap. I sure didn't do that. My 2 chippies and the porch squirrel LIKE my scent since I am the "Tall Bringer of the Black Sunflower Seeds". So soon as I released the one and got back home I just reloaded it and Ba-Zinga! caught the second one. I will follow the manufacturers directive to sterilize the trap with bleach/water before storing it tho, that just makes sense. And here is a real important note: when the 2 chipmunks and the porch squirrel went in and triggered the trap door to close, it DID NOT close 100%. The door was up about 3/4" from totally shut. This didn't seem like a defect - so I just took a finger and pushed down on top of the sliding door. This made it go all the way down and MOST IMPORTANTLY it locked that door in place. This is really a good thing when you are riding in a car with a very unhappy squirrel. I was really really happy that the trap was very well built as I couldn't image a loose and very PO'd squirrel in my car while I was driving. Additional info later this afternoon: OK, caught the Porch Squirrel that kept breaking into the house. Boy, he was NOT happy about being caged. Here is a SUPER good point about this trap: it has a solid metal top so when you pick it up by the handle on top AND you have a very unhappy squirrel inside the trap, the squirrel CAN'T reach your fingers to shred them!! Other traps that have wire mesh on top tell you to wear gloves when you pick up the trap for very good reason. I didn't even notice the solid metal top to the cage when buying it. But after I saw 2 chipmunks and 1 squirrel in the cage and how far their little arms could reach, I was sooooo happy about the solid top. The squirrels can reach pretty far out of the cage. I put a towel over the cage each time I caught a chipmunk and then the squirrel. The towel calmed the chipmunks down the same way it would a cat in a carrier or a bird in a bird cage. Not so much with the squirrel - it reached out and grabbed the towel and tried to pull it into the cage. It couldn't but it shredded a whole lot of the towel. Even tho the trap had a solid metal top (a MUST in my book since I am now an expert after 3 catch and releases ;o) I did wear gloves as the manufacturer said when releasing the little beasties. Oh, and I almost had to dump the chippies out of the trap, but the squirrel shot out of the trap like a rocket. 4079 stars.

We have had a major problem with squirrels causing hundreds of dollars of damage to our vehicles and getting into the eaves and ceiling spaces in our attic. We bought 2 of these traps, baited them with peanuts and right away started catching them. We release them safely a few kilometers away at different points in a heavily forested watershed that extends for over 30 miles. We have been very surprised and pleased to report that over the last 4 months, we've caught and safely relocated over 50 squirrels from our yard. The trap is a little tricky to set up at first but once you get the hang of it, it's easy and very sensitive. We've also caught a few grackles, bluejays and cardinals after the peanuts, but they were immediately released without incident or injury. It's important to keep a close eye on the traps between the hours of 8-10 AM and 4-6 PM when the squirrels are foraging and most likely to get caught. It's inhumane to leave them for any length of time in the traps - a quick safe release is important. Definitely recommended! We had one trap where the door spring catch failed. The seller quickly sent us a free replacement - good customer service!
