Bad photo for sure... As with all other cleaners, etc,, only use under safe conditions!!!!!! Yes, common sense applies here.... But, it has been a very good product for me.. I like it..... I bought two, one for me, and one for a friend.

strong enough for polishing Rain X?

I am not sure. I do not use Rain X on the inside because it is hard to see through on the inside. It is good for getting other crud off the inside windshield though. I like the idea because as/if it fogs up again, it's easy enough to give it an extra swipe without holding up traffic! You might have to use several cloths to get it free of Rain X.

Asking only 2016-2020 prius owners: does the pad make good contact with the window with all of the compound curves in the glass?

Yes, the pad is flexible enough to make contact as well as being able to reach the areas around the mirror. And, much easier on the back.

how does the handle just snap out of the groove to use the hammer or is there a release somewhere?

It's tight... but it will snap out and snap back in...
