What can be done to rectify this problem?" Well I found out that the problem was not with the filter but instead with the way I had hooked it up. It came with no instructions which made matters worse. I had attached the supply hose to the end next to the regulator which is incorrect and resulted in a massive air leak coming from the regulator. I'm writing this in case someone else makes the same mistake I did. The supply hose from the compressor should connect to the end next to the filters The hose attached to the end by the regulator goes to your tools. If I had looked at all of the pictures in the Amazon ad I would have seen the one that shows the proper setup. As for the filter it seems to be working as intended. The air gauge only goes to 150 PSI but the description said it was rated for 175 so I gave it a try. It's smaller than I thought but it works well and so far is working with the higher pressure I'm using. I mounted on the side of a work bench so it's very practical and I'm very happy with it.
