The plastic handle gets warm after a few hours; a metal handle would probably be untouchable. Having a power switch would be tricky because the unit gets so hot that any power switch might burn you when you press on it to turn it off. All in all, it's a well-thought-out design for a simple device. You can tilt the light up or down somewhat. It's easy to replace the lightbulb with a screwdriver and a pair of latex gloves (making sure the lamp is cold!).
