Limited 180gm audiophile vinyl LP pressing with insert. 35th Anniversary Edition. 180 gram audiophile vinyl / Insert / 35th anniversary edition. Stray Cats is the first album from rockabilly band Stray Cats, first released in the UK by Arista in 1981. It was successful in Britain, peaking at #6 on the UK Albums Chart, and produced the UK Top 40 hits 'Runaway Boys' (#9), 'Stray Cat Strut' (#11) and 'Rock This Town' (#9). The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later listed 'Rock This Town' as one of the songs that shaped rock and roll. Stray Cats debut album came hot on the heels of the two hit singles 'Runaway Boys' and 'Rock This Town' both energy filled rockabilly songs that hearkened back to the 1950's era of pure rock 'n' roll with an updated, clean '80s sound highlighted by the prominent double bass playing of Lee Rocker and drumming of Slim Jim Phantom. This album was by far their most successful, hitting #6 in the charts and their only entry into the Top 40. Review: Packaged perfectly - Christmas gift for my wife. I was worried that it may be damaged in shipping, but when it came, it was in a very sturdy box that would take some effort to damage. Very pleased with this purchase and I can't wait to see her open it. Review: The start of something special - The Stray Cats first album. They flew to London to get in on the rockabilly sound and recorded this album over there. Radio hits followed with Stray Cat Strut and Rock This Town, both on this album. Brian Setzerโs Gretsch sounds incredible. Man, can he play! If you are into that 50s sound and rockabilly, the journey starts here. A great album!

A True Rock-N-Roll Classic!
This is The Stray Cats first album. This album has never been released in the United States. Six of the songs from it, including the hits "Stray Cat Strut" and "Rock This Town", were issued on the band's first American album Built for Speed. "Storm the Embassy" is about the Iran hostage crisis of 1979-80 and may be the only time the Stray Cats recorded a political song. 1. "Runaway Boys" ~ (Brian Setzer, Jimmy McDonnell) - 3:03 2. "Fishnet Stockings" ^ (Brian Setzer) - 2:25 3. "Ubangi Stomp" ^ (Charles Underwood) - 3:14 4. "Jeanie, Jeanie, Jeanie" ~ (George Motola, Ricky Page) - 2:21 5. "Storm The Embassy" ^ (Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom) - 4:08 6. "Rock This Town" ~ (Dave Edmunds, Brian Setzer) - 3:28 7. "Rumble in Brighton" ^ (Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom) - 3:16 8. "Stray Cat Strut" ~ (Brian Setzer) - 3:16 9. "Crawl Up and Die" (Brian Feli, Jim Feli) - 3:13 10. "Double Talkin' Baby" ~ (Danny Wolfe) - 3:05 11. "My One Desire" ~ (Dorsey Burnette) - 2:57 12. "Wild Saxophone" ^ (Brian Setzer) - 3:01

Good 1981 debut
I bought this import lp when it came out. It's a good lp that reminds me of 1981, but I always preferred the Cramps retro sound. The Stray Cats were produced by Dave Edmunds and feature a clean production sound and pretty faithful retro 50's sound mixed with a little punk; whereas, The Cramps were taking the same retro sound but played and looking like they had been living in a coffin for thirty years since the 50's, oozing with dirt and grime. The Stray Cats debut lp appealed to a certain segment of guys (and girls) who wanted to dress like 1950's greasers and sock hop girls. This rebel Elvis/Gene Vincent image continued to punk bands like Social Distortion and the whole psychobilly movement ( The Meteors, etc.) and still continues strong today. I prefer The Blasters to The Stray Cats, but you can't deny there are some really good songs on this first release (Runaway Boys, Rock This Town, Rumble in Brighton, Stray Cat Strut). I just never thought the whole retro sound and look would continue like it has and we have The Stray Cats to thank for being one of the founders of this 1950's retro movement.

Back to the Original, sounds Better than Ever
Had their first US release Build for Speed that included (all?) of these tracks. This MOV pressing is spectacular, clean, quiet and heavy....and best of all NEW! Some of these tracks had slipped my memory but they came right back and sound great. The MOV vinyl is dead flat and plays beautifully.

Rock-a-billy rocks...Corpus Christi, Texas
Excellent music. Love the upright bass! The stray cat strut really rocks this town! Inside out! Missed a chance to see Brian Setzer at La Zona Rosa, in Austin Dec 10, 2011. But my son said he was awesome! Still rock-a-billy-ing...And Slim Jim was still with him. For some songs anyway!
