Great item. Kid loves it.
I bought this as a nightlight. It can be powered by battery or by a plugin. The plugin is a small transformer AC to DC that fits into the night-light via small wire. It is a semi-proprietary DC plugin, not a USB or something more standard, so don't lose the transformer. Getting a replacement might be difficult. Once powered, you can turn it on with the Middle button. This turns it to a multicolored/purpleish and starts the little plastic film diffuser motion that creates the wavy motion effect. You can press the middle button to go through the various colors. This is where things get a bit squirrel-ey. I discovered that you can HOLD down the middle button for about 1 second which will affect the Color-Changing-Mode. It goes from never-changing, to a very slow transition progression from 1 color to the next in 5 seconds, to a medium transition progression about every 1 second, to an instantenous color-change twice per second. So far my optimal setting is to press once to turn it on. Press once again to go from purpleish to reddish. Then HOLD middle button until I see it starting to transition to purple. That sets the slow-transition mode on. There is also a hole for a 2.5mm input jack. Using a phone/ipad/whatever, you can plug it into the nightlight and it works as a Speaker. It is a terribly bad speaker, but does have an interesting side effect. It works kind of like a Visualizer, where the light levels fluctuate depending on the various wavelengths of the music. So theoretically you could plug in a cheap ipod or whatever and let it play and the speaker/light will 'dance' to the music. As long as you don't need particularly good music reproduction, it works fine. This also MAY OR MAY NOT allow you to leave the speaker on for an extended duration. Normally, the speaker stays on for an hour. This is fine for me. If not for you, consider hooking up an mp3 player on loop mode playing lullabys, plugging it in, and seeing if that 'hacks' it and forces it to stay on. The speaker/nightlight looks pretty delicate but so far has continued working for the 3 months Ive used it nightly. My kid has managed to get it and mess with it, knock it off, etc, but to no negative effect so far. Hopefully I can teach him to Not Touch (or at least not knock if off the perch) before he breaks it. This was a great purchase. While it doesnt work with much existing light on, it does great in a dark room and provides pretty significant illumination. It is actually wider-angle than the AuroraMaster picture shows... about a 120 degree arc is lit up.

lovely light experience
Love Aurora Master! This light can plug in or run off batteries (4 AA), and has 12 bright little LEDs (red, blue and green) with a piece of distorted plastic moving over them to produce wave effects. The controls are (maybe too) simple: up and down volume buttons for the speaker, and a cycle button. If you push the cycle button once the wave pattern is multicolored, two times it's fading slowly through all the colors, three times for red, then blue, green and off. So you always have to cycle through the whole lineup to get to your goal or to turn it off. But I don't care. If you want Apple design you pay Apple prices. This is inexpensive for the boundless joy you will feel while seeming to be sitting inside a beautifully lit aquarium, or when watching happy multicolored faces at your next fantastic party, or while you float in a hot bath thinking about your awesome alternate life. And in that imaginary life you also have this amazing light, because it is so superb. I am ordering another one as a backup so I don't even have to contemplate life without Aurora Master's soothing effects. (I love it. It's better than Cats.) We've had this a couple of months and use it a few times a week. Have had no problems at all. It is plastic but not flimsy. Very slight humming noise from the mechanism, but any music would cover it. Speaking of which, there is a pin connector so you could use this as a speaker. It is sufficient for kids or if you don't mind a one-speaker audio experience :-) I would have LOVED this as a kid, and I am fairly mad about it as an adult. The mechanism automatically turns off after two hours. If you are a person who likes "fancy" lights, or if you have children who need help calming at bedtime, this is fun and inexpensive multi-colored bliss.

Very Fun Nightlight -- But it May Squeak
Update: It lived for like, six months and, then, it stopped working. Am I upset? No. I spent approximately fifteen dollars to entertain my kids and its fate is just that. I am not demoting it any stars because it took some thrills and spills off of the dresser so user error is probably part of its death. Plus, we propped at an angle to scatter the light show across the room. Am I sad? Yes. Is it replaceable at its price point? Yes. So, if you get this... It'll probably die in a few months but I still think it's worth the fifteen bucks for all the fun we had with it! *************************** Original Review! Bought this for my twins bedroom as part of our night-time ritual for bed and to make going to sleep soothing and fun. So far it works great though it does squeak when it rotates which is the only reason I dropped it a star. I like all the modes except the rapid flashing mode which could give someone a seizure -- but I just never use that one. Haven't tried the speakers and probably won't. Otherwise it helps me soothe the girls off to sleep, shuts off, doesn't overheat and looks spectacular (really, it looks fan-freakin'-tastic on the ceiling of a dark room!). It's worked for a month and if it dies or does something terrible I'll update, but so far so good. I now want more of them because they make the rooms look cool (squeaking or no squeaking -- though if that's a pet peeve, do not get this... or just play loud music). The auto-shut off doesn't bother me but I'm not looking to house party with this, I just think it's a neat night light and very soothing for babies and toddlers and tired moms of multiples like me... And, yes, the box is entertaining since it is an endearing but awful attempt at some sort of English.

NOT as described, only 1 color, not adjustable, but will function for my needs, good speaker.
Great little projector, quiet and relaxing sure...but NOT as described: only one color though hence 3 stars as the description states multiple color options available. I did what the FAQs said but as you can see from the pictures and videos this projector only does blue light/color, not multi-color. In addition, while the sticker on the top of the box says Matney Ocean Wave Light projector - and it contains the same elements: projector, USB cord, cord to hook up ipod, plug in adapter - the projector is not Matney - It's Darren Waves and it does not follow the description: (1) 12 LED Projector Lamp cycles between red, blue, green and multicolor transforming your bed or bathroom to a peaceful oasis - This project only does blue light ONLY. I pressed the middle button repeatedly and the color never changed - nor would I expect it to when the bulb inside is colored blue as well (see pics). (2) Built in mini speaker is iPod & mp3 compatible and automatically turns off after one hour - Speaker works great, really clear sound, that's pleasing. (3) Adjustable from 0Degree - 30Degree angles for maximum relaxation - This project is NOT adjustable (4) Description states: " The lamp requires 3 AA batteries (not included)." but it requires 4 (see pic) Considering the cost was cheap and it does work, has a good speaker and the blue light is pleasing. 3 stars, I'd do 3.5 stars because I do like it, but Amazon doesn't let me do that. It'll work for my needs BUT if you receive a projector as pictured in my photos and were expecting multi-color options - contact them for a replacement or something because really this item did not come as described.

Bring on the light show!
How cool is this?! A light show for fifteen bucks! If you're looking for an affordable way to spice up a room, give yourself some cool meditation effects, entertain the kids or make their bedtime or story time more entertaining, or just want to light up the ceiling while you soak in the tub or drift off to sleep, this device fills the bill. As others have noted, it has its limits -- it isn't going to cast the constellations on the walls, or be as impressive as a laser show or something, but for some very cool color changing light waves, it's actually very impressive, especially for the price, considering that fancier versions of this can start at twice the cost, and can even run much, much higher. The instructions are a bit laughable, full of typos and grammatical chaos that take some thinking to decipher, but all in all it's very simple to operate. Two side buttons are volume (I don't recommend really using the speaker, since the quality of it is not so good), and the center button is what controls the action for the lights, and basically you just keep tapping it until you get what you want. It has multi color mode, automatically and smoothly flowing from a rainbow combo to single colors and back to an all color display, or, keep tapping the button and you can set it to just be one color you choose, if you just like blue, or red, or green, then another tap and it can flash through the colors like a party light, and the last setting turns it off. The primitive controls are a bit of a drawback, but, considering it's so cheap, I'm not complaining. But, what I mean is, for example, it doesn't "remember" the last setting -- you have to cycle to where you want it, every time. Meaning, let's say you like the "all blue" setting, well, every time you went to use it again, you'd have to tap the center button until you get there. And, there is no option to keep it on after one hour, meaning, after an hour, it will shut off, and you have to tap the button to turn it back on, then cycle to where you want to be. But an hour is usually enough time to fall asleep anyway, or soak in the tub or whatever, and, as far as using it to fall asleep, or soothe the kids to sleep, it's handy, in fact, that you don't have to worry about it being on all night. The light show? VERY COOL. It definitely covers the ceiling, and even comes down the walls depending on how small the room or area is that you're lighting up. Because you can choose colors, if you want it dim, you can go with all red, or all blue, and it's incredibly soothing. None of the colors, in fact, are glaring, but it's great you can pick one color to go with, and each of the color choices of solid red, or blue, or green, are rich and deep and utterly relaxing. The full multi color display has purples and yellows and oranges -- it is brighter overall, but still not glaring at all. Really, any setting is super pleasant, whether cycling through all the colors, or fixing it on one, although I find the solid blue to be the most absolutely soothing. I'm not sure of the use for the flashing setting. It's not a strobe effect, but seems kind of annoying, so I personally won't be using that setting. The effect, in what you see, is one of rolling waves or ripples, and it definitely is relaxing, no doubt about it. The unit runs silently, using a rotating cluster of LED lights that displays as waves when passing through the clear, rippled top cover of the unit, kind of like shining a light through a wavy glass window. A drawback of placement is that the lights inside the housing are extremely bright -- kinda makes you see spots afterwards, nearly like a camera flash, and the instructions even warn not to stare into it, but what makes it a drawback is that, placing it low on the floor, for example, in the center of a room, you can see the bright glare of the lights inside the housing, or can accidentally glance over and get that bright flash of light in your eyes, plus there is the risk of someone tripping over it, so, while the unit being on the floor, in the center or a room, is the most ideal placement for the most ceiling coverage of light, it's not ideal because, if the inner housing is in your line of sight, you risk having the direct glare of the LED's in your eyes, if you glance toward, or directly at, the device. So, consider placement carefully. To get maximum ceiling coverage, you want it down as low as possible, since, like any light, the farther it is from the surface being lit, the larger is the area of coverage -- think of taking a flashlight, and walking toward a wall, the closer you get to the wall, the smaller becomes the circle of light being cast. With the glare of these LED's, you basically want it either above your line of sight, or blocked by something -- like, putting it next to the bathtub is great, on the floor, if you're laying back in the tub, but sit up, or stand up, and WOW, there's the blazing LED's right in your eyes. So, it just takes some thought on where it's best placed. The lighting/placement issue makes the picture on the box quite misleading -- if you actually tried using it like that, you'd be seeing spots, for sure, because you risk glancing into the housing itself, where the super bright LED lights are rotating. As a side note, the color options shown in the photos are not accurate either -- solid color options are red or blue or green only, at least on the unit I received, and there is also the option of having it fixed on multicolor. There is no "all purple" on mine. In terms of figuring out placement, just experiment to find what works, keeping in mind you want it low enough to provide a good spread of lighting, but not low enough to where the LED's are, or could become, in direct line of sight by you or anyone else in the room. As for the angle being "adjustable" as they say, I am guessing they mean to say that coverage depends on how high or low to the ceiling you place the device, since there are no other "adjustments" that can be made, at least not on the unit I received. Personally I've had no issues with it -- good placement can be found, for excellent display coverage and no risk of the glaring LED's. The speaker, as I mentioned, is not so terrific, and I don't bother with it, especially considering that it doesn't compare well at all to the many low price, high quality speaker options that are available these days, most of which are now Bluetooth. This is a corded connection, using an AUX in 3.5mm audio cable, which is provided. The sound (from the single speaker) is really not worth using, in my opinion, although it is possibly superior to a cell phone speaker, if you wanted to plug your phone into it to play music you have stored there. It doesn't have any kind of music "sync" in terms of the light responding to sound or anything like that. Keep in mind also that both the speaker and lighting power off, after an hour, so if you used the speaker, it is only good for one hour of listening. Although it shows in the photos that it comes with a power adapter, mine did not. Pictures in the instructions also seemed to indicate an adapter was supposed to be there, so I will be emailing the company to ask why -- mine came with the audio cord and the USB power cord only. I happen to have more than a few USB-to-wall-plug adapters laying around, so I just used one of those, and it worked fine. I also have some power cords with USB ports in them, and those worked fine as well. It takes batteries as well. All in all, for such a ridiculously low price, this is the hit, to add some flare to an area or provide some very soothing lighting. LED's are all the rage now, from smart light bulbs to cubes or spheres that rotate through a color spectrum, but, despite being only a fraction of the cost of most "mood lighting" offerings, this one is totally unique in providing a very beautiful, undulating pattern of light that no other device provides. Keeping in mind the limitations of its feature set, this is head and shoulders above the rest for what it does, considering what it costs. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Matney Ocean Wave Light Projector
The Matney Ocean Wave Light Projector is a delight for children (ages 3 and up as it does have some small pieces) and adults. Whether you are trying to entertain a child or using it to bring some life into a dull college dorm room this product is guaranteed to satisfy. I use it in the childcare center I intern at during naptime and it gives the kids something pleasant to focus on before they fall asleep. I also bought a second one for my mother; she loves it and she says that is has helped her fall asleep by keeping her mind and ears occupied. Description The Wave Light Projector is lightweight and portable. It is also very affordable and for something that is so cheaply priced; it is durable and aesthetically pleasing. The Wave Light Projector comes in two colors (blue or white) and two different styles (diamond shaped or circular). The colors are vibrant and fill the ceiling of a 10x 9 room completely. Features •Built in speaker – It has quality speakers and it is iPod & mp3 compatible and automatically turns off after one hour. •There are 3 buttons. The 2 outer buttons are volume up/down. The middle button is the one that operates the light. There are 8 settings. You can leave the light on one specific color or you can go the eighth setting which is the multicolor light show. •12 LED Projector Lamp (uses a LED bulb) cycles between red, blue, green and multicolor transforming your bed or bathroom to a peaceful oasis •It comes with a wall adapter or you can put in 4 triple A battery to set it up in a place without a convenient plug in. •The Wave Light Projector allows you to move it up to a 30-degree angle and the LED light rotates internally. The only issue I have with this product is the 1 hour shut off time. Personally, I would prefer that it stay on all night. However, this is just this is just a minor annoyance. For what you are paying for this product and how well it works I can handle the fact that it shuts off earlier then I would like. Overall this is a great product.

Awesome Product; Great Quality
I absolutely love this thing! I didn't know exactly what to expect because the box is very vague, and there are no instructions, but it was a pleasant surprise. There are several different color and speed settings for the lights, and the LED light inside of the machine rotates so the lights are projected onto all of the walls in the room. It doesn't have to be completely dark either, it is still very visible and bright. The best part is that it has a built in speaker so it can play music from any device (easiest from an Iphone or mp3 player because the cord is pretty short) but the speaker goes up to a really loud volume and the music is still perfectly clear and depending on the setting you choose, the lights seem to move to the beat of the music which makes this great for parties! It is also great for relaxation because there is a soft light setting, and when it is hooked up to slower music or lullaby's, it could put anyone to sleep. I bought another product at the same time for the same price because neither had great explanations and were so cheap I thought I would try them both but WOW there was a big difference. The other product comes up as a recommended item when you view this one, it is called the LED Night Light Beauty Star...and it was terrible. Not nearly as high quality as the Aurora Master, it was made from cheap bendable plastic and didn't project the lights/stars further then about a foot. If you are considering any similar product I definitely recommend trying this one first, you wont be disappointed!

Very cool nice ambiance lighting and effect!
Very cool! In this items case its all about where you position it! I personally like it to be hidden so where I put it is directly behind my television. It only covers about..... 3 feet outward but horizontally covers the entire ceiling and gives a nice effect when on. You can put it in the middle of the room and have most if not all of your ceiling lit up and "wavy" but you will see the "light projector" and you will have to have an extension long enough which will also be in view. Thus is why I opted to hide it behind the TV and I love the effect! It doesnt come with a long enough USB wire but I am sure you can buy one which is longer. It will plug into ANY USB phone charger/outlet though it comes with its own or (though I have not tried) even into your TV USB port (when the TV is on) It has a handful of colors and a "strobe" like changing feature (which I do not particularly care for) Its about the size or a tart/candle warmer (give or take) maybe a little longer but its width is similar to a tart/candle warmer. THE ONLY THING that I "dont like" is that it shuts off automatically after about 3 hours or so. Though I "dont like" that feature it can be helpful, handy and safer! I say that and use those words because 1) you dont want to burn it out (even though its LEDS) 2) you dont want a fire (its not made of the best materials (its plastic flimsy and kind of light and made in China and its "inexpensive") and 3) IF you have it in a bedroom while youre going to sleep it shuts off after you start to snooze! I have not used its "speakers" I see no need for that so can comment on that aspect of the design. The picture was taken in the day (it looks "nicer" at night) you can see some sun light from my window off to the side but this is how I have it set up
