I dont need an enclosure or any dock, just a simple no-frills, no-fuss design that would allow me to mount my external 3.5" HDDs. Well, this unit fits the bill to a T (and very few do). First size: when plugged in, this unit is 2.75 x 1.25 x 0.50 in. with a 36 in. attached USB cable. I like that the cable/power come out the side too. Next speed: Ill say that I was hesitant to try USB 3.0 products after I bought a certain external HDD from a company I wont mention, (hint: they have a gate to the sea). Anyways, I was getting at best, ~70 MB/s transfer rates on the mechanical hard drive, even though I had other 7200 rpm units in SATA that Ive benchmarked at 100 MB/s+. Well, with this thing I had a laptop SSD transferring to a spare (old) SSD and transfer speed was ~250 MB/s!!! SSD to external 3.5" mechanical 7200 RPM drive was ~140/110 R/W. You read that right, this puppy performed pretty much at the limit of the drives! One thing I did to get those speeds was set the drive in device manager to "better performance" for the SSD.Anyways, Im definitely happy with the purchase and if youre on the fence, give it a try. Ive only had it for a day so I cant attest to its long term use, but so far, its making me a believer of USB 3.0 again. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Worked on one computer but not another. *by B***Y on Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2015* This device did not work on my Windows 7 Home Dell XPS 8300 desktop with an H67 chipset and an add on PCIE USB 3 card. It would not work on the USB 3 ports on the card or the native USB 2 ports. It would install drivers for the hard drive but nothing else happened. In Disk Manager the drives I was trying to access appeared as a "healthy partition" but the drive was never assigned a letter and did not appear in Explorer. I have a USB 2 drive enclosure that this computer reads perfectly. It is merely a PITA to switch drives in and out of. And it is slow of courseOn a whim I tried the device on a Dell laptop and it worked exactly as expected with SATA and IDE drives. The laptop might be 6-12 months newer than the desktop. It has native USB 3.I did some research and found that there are a number of people reporting that their computers cannot access drives with a device like this. I never saw a universal explanation or solution. Some fixes that worked for one had no effect on another. This Dell Latitude laptop suddenly refused to get past the diagnosis screen with Windows 7. Internet searching did not offer any promising fixes. Seemed the only way to save my data was to remove the hard drive and copy the data I needed.It took some researching to figure out what this was called. When I found it, I ordered it and was able to copy my data from the laptop hard drive. . Since the laptop belonged to the public school and we turned it into the tech department for repairs. They said the hard drive had failed. Here I would disagree. I do believe it was more likely a corrupt file that caused the error since it ran up to that diagnosis screen and because I was able to remove the data I needed. Also the tech did not say anything about recovering files needed. Seems that's an error of a novice technician. That's a bad oversight.
