Review: Great product! - All around what I expected, very well made product!
Review: Might be useful for some hobbyists, but the low price goes with low quality - I'm retired from a 47 year career as an electrical engineer and circuit designer; during those years, I designed a number of thermocouple instruments, so I'm more than a little familiar with this technology. A thermocouple, simply stated, is the junction of two dissimilar metals in contact with each other. When dissimilar metals are in contact, a small voltage is generated, and that voltage varies with the temperature. For this reason, thermocouples are sometimes used for temperature measurement purposes. There are a number of different types of thermocouples; the ones that this instrument uses are type K, but there are also types J,T,E,R,S,B, and N. The different types have different temperature ranges and/or are designed for specific environments. Type K is a good general purpose type. The chief advantage of using a thermocouple to measure temperature is range: type K thermocouples can be used up to 1292 degrees F, so it's appropriate for high temperature applications. Other thermocouple types can go much higher. Most other types of temperature sensors fall well short of that kind of range. Now for the instrument itself: superficially, it looks a bit like professional instruments made by Fluke and other companies, with a rubberized jacket surrounding a plastic case, and with a hinged back that serves as a stand. On close inspection, this one rapidly dismisses any such comparison; I have to admit that it has a very cheap feel, with a brittle plastic case and ill-fitting rubberized surround. When I removed the rubber surround to install the battery, the battery door fell away... the closure screw was missing. Once the battery was installed, the instrument worked, and test readings with one of the stainless steel probes indicated approximately correct temperatures. Four probes are provided; two of the stainless steel variety, and two that are terminated with bare thermocouple wire. The latter two have a leadwire cable which appears to be of the high temperature woven type, but the stainless probes have ordinary plastic insulation, and are obviously not designed for the high temperature environment. One glaring fault (which I have seen with other inexpensive devices from China) is that the connectors for the probes are not polarized; the user must insure that the positive and negative terminals are plugged into the correct receptacles. Professional instruments don't have this flaw; on quality instruments, the connection lugs are orthogonal to each other, so the probe can't be incorrectly inserted. The function buttons on the face of the instrument permit selection of degrees F or C, the ability to 'hold' a measurement, a min/max/average function, and the selection of which thermocouple channel is being displayed. One final button permits the display to indicate the difference between the two thermocouple channels. I think I can say that this product could be a good value for the money, assuming that the user is not expecting lab-grade construction and ruggedness. The most likely users might be ceramic or glass artists who need to measure the temperature of their kilns, although I imagine there are other hobbyist applications, as well. Auto enthusiasts might use the device to check on exhaust manifold temperatures or similar engine parameters.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's an OK meter
*by K***O on June 4, 2022*

It's a decent meter but the thermistors are cheap and off from one another and neither responded accurately in boiling water. They're close enough for non critical numbers though. This meter can not be used for critical spec calibration. The meter itself will probably provide you with years of good service but you'll have to replace the sensor leads which appear to be standard plugs. I've already replaced it with a fieldpiece. I'm using this meter to monitor mushroom grow conditions because I can just leave the thermistors hanging freely. One thing to note though is it's battery bounces around freely in its compartment but I resolved that issue by inserting a piece of folded cardboard in the cavity.
