The only difference is that the upgraded version has the pressure regulator you mentioned. The upgraded version is for regions with altitude higher than 13,000 feet. It will develop a little pressure, but not like a pressure cooker. Absolutely amazed to get perfect rice first time. I've ordered some dried mixed vegetables and bought spices and stock cubes, and I think this is going to transform my lightweight hiking meals. Put 100g rice, stock cube, dried veg and a few spices in a ziplock bag, just add water when ready to cook. Way healthier than the dehydrated meals you buy and completely customisable.
