The timer to buy
Works perfect. Had to replace my old pool timer and this does the job perfectly. Easy to set up, install and is well made. It is silent, no noise but you know it's doing it's job because the water is moving when it should. The timer is easy to set and looks better than what I had before. Quality product that should last a long time.

Excellent Customer Service
This is going to be an unusual review of this item. First off, I purchased this as an exact replacement of the original pool timer that was probably there since the pool was built. We bought this home from a previous owner 14 years ago and though I don't know exactly when the pool was built originally, I have every reason to believe the old part was the original timer. That says a lot about its quality and reliability. But it did ultimately stopped working. So, the new replacement came. It is literally a snap to remove the old one and install the new one (exact same model). The snap/clip that holds it in place is a one handed operation in less time that it would take to exhale and inhale a single breath. By the way, as a tip, after making sure the power is completely turned off from the breaker, take a photo of the original wiring arrangements before removing. One Philips screw driver, and off with the wires. Putting them back in took just a few minutes. The pump turned on. And this is where I pivot to customer service. There was something wrong with how the timer dial indicator was moving. The clock was running counter clockwise. I called the manufacturer's product support who advised that I return the item because it had to be defective for the clock to behave that way. I contacted Amazon thru the usual return order process (all done online). A quick response gave instructions on how and where to return it (Kohl's nearby will repack and shipped the old item for free). A replacement was expected to be shipped in a little over a week. Meanwhile, the pool pump was running and I thought I'd keep it running and will manually shut it off and back on as I had been doing the past two weeks anyhow (with the old timer). Well, lo and behold, by early evening it turned off! That led me to re-examine or re-analyze the timer dial movement. I was mistaken. I totally misread how it was moving. I thought I'd wait till the following morning to call off the shipment of the replacement item and it would confirm by morning, for sure, if the pump will automatically turn on. It id!! Early his morning I got an email from Amazon that there was good news. The replacement will get here in three days. Oh no! I didn't expect Amazon to ship the item until they got the old one back. So now, egg on my face, I went to cancel the item. This review is about two things. This timer is one solid performer. Remember it took all those many years (power outages, hurricanes, one pump change) when it finally gave up; though not entirely. The auto timer did fail but I was able to manually make it work. The manufacturer's product support was responsive (although the product turned out to be all right). Then, this proves once again that Amazon has no equal. Bravo to customer support!!!

I'd Buy it Again
This time switch has been switching our in-ground pool pump off and on, daily, May to mid-September for four summer seasons. The first two winters, we removed the unit from its housing and took it inside. Recently we've kept it outside, without power on the circuit, because we now leave the pump outside all winter and we bump the pump motor once or twice in the off-season (when the temperature is above freezing and the intake to the pump is open so that the pump won't create suction on the winterized pool). I especially like the manual on-off switch that lets us bypass the time settings, because it comes in so handy when back washing the filter, pumping out rainwater and, as said, bumping the motor in winter. As long as the circuit is active, the time switch will keep accurate time, even when you're using the on-off switch in manual mode. But it's mechanically timed so you have to reset it if there's a local power failure, or in the spring (we keep the circuit off in the winter except when bumping the pump motor). Concerning the timer -- there is only one Off and one On setting for every 24 hours. The on & off switches are mechanically adjustable, so we can run the pool pump, say, 20 hours a day when we first open the pool and then set it back to, say 16 or 12 hours a day, later. The switches are designed to be tightened down with a thumbscrew. I normally tweak the screw down just a little bit harder by gently turning it an additional quarter-turn with needlenose pliers. Offhand, I would say that you could set it to a 23 or 23-1/2 hour On or Off cycle, if you only want to activate or deactivate for a short time. But not much more than that. Mechanically. it's limited in the switches (think of them as cams) that require a degree of travel in order to turn on or off. In other words, don't expect to be able to set them to go Off then On again after 1 or 2 minutes. But applications that would require such timing are very, very rare. If you don't have basic electrical skills, hire an electrician to install it. If you plan to install this automated switch anywhere near a swimming pool, you may want to use a GFI circuit. Ours is 25 feet away from the pool and behind an 8 foot wooden fence, with nothing but plastic pipe between the pump and the pool, so we use a traditional circuit breaker. Finally, the time switch comes with a metal box. We mounted ours on a brick wall where there is no back-splash from the rain. All of our cable penetrations come through the bottom of the box and we use cable clamps (although not rain-tight) where the wires enter. With this setup, I have never seen a drop of water inside the box. There are gaskets where the hinged door closes on the box. Naturally, the box has been mounted outdoors all of these four years. There is a small degree of corrosion but, so far, not nearly enough to warrant concern of a rust-through. I expect this metal housing to last another four years, or even more. But the manufacturer would do well by applying a little extra paint. BOTTOM LINE: Nothing lasts forever; especially when exposed to the elements. This timer switch has held up very well. It shows no sign of failing in the near future. And even if it does, it has already paid for itself.

A perfect replacement for my old Intermatic timer...easy install and great price.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: This was a perfect replacement for my old Intermatic timer. The old one has been in use for at least 10 years, and finally gave up. It was used to turn the pool lights on and off. The pump is on a separate timer. It was a super easy swap out. I unscrewed the wires, making sure to be able to identify them when I reconnected them to the new timer. The old one pops out by pressing a retaining tab inside the enclosure. The new one slides right into place. I reconnected the wires and was back in business in 10 minutes. It is way easier to replace just the internals instead of the entire box. I expect this one will last another 10 years. Intermatic has a great reputation for quality and longevity. Pro tip...make sure you buy the correct timer for the voltage you are using. They come in 240 volt and 120 models. Make sure you order the right voltage for your application...I highly recommend this as a great replacement timer.

A direct no-trouble replacement in a unit that died maybe a decade after installation. This timer works non-stop for half of the year and is used for a 220v pool motor. It’s been more than a year that it’s in place and seems ready for many more.

Thanks to time-of-use electricity pricing, it's no longer reasonable or affordable to run the pool pump all day to keep the water circulated, clear, and algae free. No, it necessitates an evening run to the pool shed to fire up the pump for 12 glorious hours of lowest-rate power, and if you miss the alarm, 2-4 more hours of much more expensive power. Plus, I have other urgent priorities when I first wake up, and the sound of running water ensures that first things happen first. Since I prefer dry feet and not much moving about when I first wake, heading to the pool shed through dewy grass to turn off the pump and keep some cash in my pocket simply doesn't appeal to me. Enter the timer. It's quite challenging to find a 240v timer here in North America, but between Intermatic making one, Amazon selling it, and FedEx delivering to my door, it has been accomplished! The wiring diagram is a little difficult to comprehend but once you understand what it's showing you, it's simple and straightforward to hook up. The weatherproof box means it can be mounted outside but my handy pool shed ensures both my pump and timer are dry, save perhaps catastrophic failure of pump seals. As an added bonus, the timer keeps time. The timer on/off adjusters are a little finicky to use, but that may have more to do with my sausage-sized fingers. If, like me, your hands and fingers are large, you may want a 10 year old around to help put them on. If you can't find one, I hear there are loads at your local skate park. In a nutshell, I'm banking on nothing short of a direct lightning strike will cause me to have to make a dewy run to the pool shed ever again.

Have this timer hooked up for a wintertime automotive block heater outlet. Keeps time very well and works great. I opted for this particular timer due to the "Intermatic" brand name which is tried and true. I was looking at the digital timers on Amazon but chose this mechanical timer mostly due to the fact that we have various numerable power outages and interruptions because of our rural location. Going outside to mess with a digital timer and reset everything at -30c pushing buttons and going through various menus? Screw that! A simple spin of the timer dial on this timer to reset to the correct time and it's good to go again.
