When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry… (Scholastic Bookshelf) [Bang, Molly, Bang, Molly] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. When Sophie Gets Angry - Really, Really Angry… (Scholastic Bookshelf) Review: Sophie - This book is a must have for little children. What a sweet story! Donated this copy for a book drive. Totally worth it. Review: A toddler favorite that teaches big-feelings skills - This book is a staple in our house. My toddler LOVES When Sophie Gets Angry — Really, Really Angry, and honestly… I do too. It takes a huge feeling (anger) and makes it normal and understandable, while also showing healthy ways to move through it. The story is simple enough for little kids to follow, but it opens the door to really meaningful conversations: “Do you ever feel like Sophie?” “What does your body feel like when you’re mad?” “What helps you calm down?” We’ve read it so many times that my kid can almost “coach” themselves through the moment now — they’ll reference Sophie when they’re upset, which has been amazing for building emotional intelligence and giving us shared language for big feelings. If you have a toddler/preschooler who feels things loudly (or you just want a great emotions book in your rotation), this one is absolutely worth it.

A toddler favorite that teaches big-feelings skills

Excellent story, helps little ones understand
This is a great book for anyone who needs reassurance and understanding regarding the sometimes violent and scary emotion of anger. My kids and I loved the story and the descriptions of the feeling and what Sophie does to feel better. It is non-judgmental and I really wish I had this book as a kid. I'm glad that my kids will know that other people feel this way and that it's okay to be angry (something that would have been very helpful for me when I was their age). The pictures are great too. Very colorful and expressive. Overall, a wonderful book. I did take one star away because of the manufacturing of the book. The publisher chose to use a type of paper that creases easily and when creased leaves a white mark. This really detracts from the beautiful illustrations.

Teaching mindfulness to kids
I am a parent and also a yoga teacher. I think this book very beautifully illustrates what anger may feel like, a volcano ready to explode! Sophie lets off steam by running... and crying... then she comes to her senses, seeing, hearing, feeling nature. "The wide world comforts her." "Sophie feels better now." She returns home to the warmth and familiar smells and sounds and sights of home. She is welcomed home. She is not her anger. This book really offers a way to open up dialogue about anger and other emotions. Kids can relate their feelings to colors, to things in nature. Mindfulness is about being aware of the present moment while you are in it. Coming to our senses brings us into the present moment. Mindfulness is a wonderful anger management tool, feeling the emotion in the body, focusing on the sensation rather than reacting from it. Teaching mindfulness allows for opportunities to respond rather than react. The thing to remember is that it is mindfulness PRACTICE!!! I think this book could help lessen tantrums, giving kids a sense of control over their anger. It is a chance to LEARN from anger. The illustrations are vibrant and engaging. My son is going on three, and he was definitely able to relate to Sophie. We just recently read this book together and I think it will serve us well! I highly recommend it!

Helped my kids deal with their emotions
I read this to my kids almost daily when they were young. It's a great story about what you can do when you are angry, and not be destructive. They are grown adults now, but I definitely saw how this book influenced them as they became teenagers, and became "Sophies". I am so happy I found this book, it made my life just a little bit easier during those teen years. I bought another copy for my young niece and nephew, hopefully it will help them just as much as it helped my kids.

Good book for emotional relating
This book is great for my 4 year old because he identifies with Sophie's emotions. so for that its a win. Now for the stuff I don't like about this book... Sophie's sister forcibly TAKES a toy from her resulting in her falling over another toy. Their mother's reaction to her sister's actions? that its her sisters turn to play with it...WTH? This of course leads to Sophie getting super angry and going through the motions (totally understandable!). Sophie takes off leaving the house for an extended period of time wandering in the woods (sure, she's old enough, no issue there...). Sophie finally returns home to her parents and sister hanging out in the living room like absolutely nothing happened. I get we don't need or want to get into dealing with complex emotional dynamics for the age group this book is for, however, if we aren't going to do that, then maybe write a different story. Its easy for Sophie to be angry at her sister and what happened without the comment/interaction from the mother (which teaches and sets a bad precedent) and its also easy to write an apology from the sister when Sophie returns to the home as opposed to, you know, acting like nothing happened and Sophie didn't just run off into the woods angry for the entire evening... The pictures in the book are beautiful and you definitely feel for Sophie, but this book will be passed along when my kiddo is old enough to get that the mom should have handled the situation differently. Right now, he's just into the pictures that he relates to emotionally and Sophie's reactions which he also gets and asks a lot of good questions about.

Me parece una buena opción para trabajar las emociones, principalmente el enojo. Tanto con niños, como con adultos incluso
