Why only one strength number to enter?

I think when they have your reading number, the other values are extrapolated in a mechanical way. Not the same product as you will get at the eye doctor's.

Are they tinted lenses?

No, they are clear plastic lenses but I've found that there is a slight yellowing over many months, but it's barely noticeable.

The strength entered to order must correspond to one of the lens 'settings'. Which one?

These are progressive lenses. Select your max reading strength. Example. Mine is +1.50. This means the bottom 1/3 of the lens is +1.50. Less strength as the lens moves up.
