Isabelle Pineapple Mini Cakes, 1.7 Ounce (16 Count)

My aunt had given me one of these pineapple cakes a while back and it was so yummy I tried finding them online. These were a decent price and arrived within a week even with no rush delivery option. I ordered a total of 3 boxes, they all have July 2023 expiration dates, I should have no problem eating them in 3 and a half month. The best pineapple cakes I’ve had were in Taiwan. The bakery that made them didn’t add preservative so all the pineapple cakes I brought back to NY had to be eaten within a couple of weeks. I think my whole suitcase full of pineapple cakes barely lasted me a week. These aren’t quite as good but compared to all the other brands I’ve tried in NY, they’re a good enough substitute until I can travel to Taiwan again. At 200 calories each, I think I can eat 2-3 of these a day without gaining too much weight. The cakes are very buttery compared to all the other brands I’ve had from Asian supermarkets. The pineapple filling is dense and has tiny chunks of pineapple in it. These are very crumbly and should be eaten over napkins or wastebaskets to minimized cleanup. Price isn’t too bad, I got these when they were a little over $20 a box. Yes, it’s pricier than most supermarket brands, but you get what you paid for. These are worth the price premium and cheaper than flying to Taiwan to eat them.

They’re the same from the ones in Costco. Very yummy!

Really good cake

My Taiwanese friend recommended this to be the best of all Pineapple cakes when I tried one other kind and was disappointed. I'm glad I took her words. It sure was good. Not overly sweet, and not too dry. But if you don't like dry side cake which crumbles easily, I don't recommend it. Some people I shared this cake with didn't like it for making mess as they ate (if you are messy eater, stay away.). There's another box, a red one, but the products inside are exactly the same.

I'm afraid what could have been a very satisfactory treat, instead turned into a major disappointment. This is definitely a case where the reality bore no resemblance to the expectation. First surprise was to find each individually wrapped 'cake' was not only in an airtight wrapper, but contained an individual desiccant packet with the food. The food was actually a square biscuit cookie, with a solid lump of what must have started as pineapple jam in the center. However, the 'cake' had dried to the texture a sugar biscuit, and the filling was also dry and barely recognizable as pineapple [the texture was pineapple pieces, but any flavor had disappeared]. If the filling had retained the flavor of dried pineapple, this still could have been a sweet pineapple cookie. Instead, it was a flavorless, dry cube.
