I recently bought this mouse and am unable to get my computer to recognize the mouse. I'm using windows 8.1, has anyone else had this problem?

The manufacturer's site state that it is compatible with Win 8, so it should be no problem with 8.1. If you are still having the problem after trying the below suggestions, the best thing to do is contact the manufacturer at help@evoluent.com for support, there hours are M-F 9-5 PST time.Try the following first, some of them are not trying to make you look uninformed, but we have heard of a few customers doing exactly just that:1. Make sure the battery is good and inserted properly, the negative side goes it first.2. The on/off button at the bottom of the mouse, it is on the left side of the battery cover, make sure that it is switched on by sliding it to toward the battery cover. When it turns on, the Evoluent logo light on the back of the mouse should blink rear quick and lights up for several seconds, then fades out.3. Best to plug the nano USB receiver directly on the computer, not a hub. If Windows recognizes it, the receiver will show up within Devices and Printers>Devices as a mouse icon with the words Evoluent VerticalMouse 4. If it does not, try another USB port, in case that other port is bad. If it still does not show up, then there is a possibility that the USB receiver is defective, in that case, contact the manufacturer, they help and take care of you.Hope this helps.

Question 2

Other than the obvious, has anyone compared the wireless and wired versions? Is there a difference?

I have one of each, and the wired one moves much slower than the wireless at the same Windows mouse speed setting. When I switch workstations, I need to use my Windows settings to slow down (wireless) or speed up (wired) the mouse speed depending on which station I use. I am NOT knowledgeable, so there may be a better way to address this issue that is more permanent, but if not it's something to consider when choosing.
