March 2012-January 2013 Review: Order this NOW! - I won't lie - I initially bought this book to expand the small bathroom library I've created to pass time by, while other things are being passed. I did NOT expect to being unable to put it down once it arrived! Within a matter of only a couple days, I had read every single epic experience and have been giving my suitcase furtive glances ever since. Being a financially strapped newly-wed, I had gracefully come to terms with the fact that traveling the world wasn't likely to happen anytime soon. So a word of advice: this book is dangerous!! After reading it, all I wanted to do was climb Mt. Fiji, go swimming with great whites and orcas (not at the same time), eat absurd foods, plan a fantastic cross-country road trip, stay in remote and odd hotels, hop festivals throughout Europe and go on an ammateur archialogical dig. Basically, I only want to travel to every country in current existence. Here's the kicker: it's actually possible to do these things. I thought you had to dish thousands upon thousands to experience and travel the world's greatest. This book is phenomenal not just as a fantastic list of life euphoria, but because it also includes websites and agencies you can contact to set up these experiences any time, right in the description. It gives advice on how to travel on the cheap and where to go to get the most bang for your buck. This is the FIRST book I'm going to when I plan a trip. It's not the hotel rooms or even the views that are going to determine where I travel next, as every country has their own unique and beautiful landscapes. It's what I DO there that's going to make the difference. On a side note, I'm from San Francisco and they even included things to do in my city and state that I have either never thought of doing, or never knew existed right in my own backyard. This book has changed my life (and my savings account) forever. Needless to say, it's on my nightstand. Not in the bathroom. Review: For an adventurous minds! - Very easy to read, very well organized nothing extra just the right amount of information. Amazing as a coffee table book. Give you so many ideas and offers you the best things to do whenever places you go. Don't have to think and search yourself about crazy amazing stuff you wanna do in life. it's simply gives you where the best place to certain activity like go swim with whales or climbing on the mountain. I will try to achieve these experiences! This book really offer you some ultimate experiences.

Great and organized travel ideas
This book is great for OCD folks like myself. It breaks things down into categories such as: Best Family Holiday Destinations Best Places to Challenge the Locals Best Cities for a James Bond Foot Chase Best Places to Don a Fancy Dress Awe-Inspiring Ancient Sites This whole book has so many random options for places to visit. It’s really cool! I bought this book used and it arrived quickly and in decent, used condition. I’m glad I have this to add to my collection. I look forward to visiting some of the places listed in the book.

Just enough to wet your appetite
This is a great book to get your mind working on places you many have never considered traveling to. I really like the way the book is structured by grouping places by types of interests (e.g. Most Spine-Tingling Commutes, New York's Best Food Cultures, Best Obscure Holidays). Each of these expose the reader to looking at travel as an experience that can be unique and unforgettable. For each section the book typically lists 5-10 different areas around the world that fit the section. These are varied consistently and provide a good mix of experiences from tame to exotic. Each area is usually covered by 1 or 2 paragraphs so it's just enough to help you figure out what's interesting enough to research in other ways. This book is not a detailed travel guide. You won't get any details on each of the areas, no pricing, restaurant suggestions, etc. It's meant to be help you find experiences on a much higher level and leaves the detailed guidance to other sources. The writing is clear and the photography is excellent. I definitely recommend this book.

Fun read
This book is fun to read! From a person who loves to travel this book has a range of interesting places and scenarios. Even if you can't visit the places in the book it a great for those with a stong imagination. I gave this book to my boyfriend, also an avid traveler, and we love flipping through and thinking of where we want to go next!

Excellent!
This book provides a lot of great ideas for fun and adventurous things to do. In general, the short descriptions of the 1,000 experiences are useful. Also, although it includes many pictures and web sites, I wish it had even more. Regardless, it's still excellent.

not as good as it could have been
I was really excited to order this book, and sadly the excitement ended there. The book seemed incredibly random to me, with a lot of repetition of places/regions that I have no interest in going...and this is coming from someone who loves to travel. On top of the the categories by which they chose to organize different stuff didn't seem well thought out. Examples: Best in slow travel, best ways to eke out your holiday money, and my favorite- quintessential travel experiences..., seriously? I though the whole book was supposed to be about quintessential travel experiences. Overall it seems like the editors at lonely planet had trouble getting to a list of 1,000 and put in a bunch of crap filler that ruins it for me. If you are interested in this type of book with brief paragraphs on cool places all over the world I suggest checking out the Rough Guide's "Make the most of your time on Earth: 1000 Ultimate travel experiences" Overall I found that one to be better written, more inspiring and better organized.

Ultimate present
I was so impressed by this book that I bought four of them for Christmas presents. Brilliant for gap year students or anyone else for that matter. I no longer have the book to refer to but it's full of stunning colour photography and interesting facts, taking you through a multitude of international destinations, giving tips such as best places to go for markets, sports activities, landscape, museums (including our own English lawnmower museum - perhaps a destination I'll not hotfoot it to), the pocket, by different forms of transport, the list goes on and on. Hard to see how they can sell it so cheaply. Would heartily recommend to everyone, even those not planning to travel. It's the ultimate coffee table book.
