Hercules

I know it's a good movie, but it still hasn't arrived yet. Amazon tracking shows it's been sitting at their facility in Milwaukee, WI for over 6 days.

Hercules movie is amazing, it just has all the making of a classic Disney movie. It has a great cast. amazing songs throughout the movie. I have watched the movie three days straight just to hear "Go the Distance" and "Star is Born." Hercules is not just a great movie for kids but adults as well because everyone wants to live both those songs just like Hercules.

This is such an amazing movie from my childhood. Great lessons on giving it all and sacrifices for those you love.

Disney's "Hercules" is an upbeat rendition of the classic myth. It tells the simple story of an immortal being trying to find the place where he belongs. Sterling performances by Danny DeVito who plays Hercules' satyr trainer Philoctetes (Phil) and Susan Egan as Megara (Meg) his wise-talking love interest. James Woods voices the god Hades, the villain of the piece who comes across like a ruthless executive, making shady deals with everyone and hoping no one sees the fine print. The songs are top notch, sung by the muses who tell the story and interact with the characters. Parents might want to familiarize their kids with the original myth so they can understand the film as it is full of classical references which will go over the head of the average child (the muses aren't going to explain everything). The film has been panned by religious types who take offense at everything. Incredibly, it has also been panned by the Greek Government who think we Yankees have no right tampering with their cultural past--even though they no longer worship that cultural past. These two negative attitudes simply prove that conservatism is the root of all anal and cause this reviewer to quote a line from the film: "Lighten up, dude!" If you don't like this film, your life is indeed a Greek tragedy.

Another Disney classic! The animation is fantastic, the story line is fun and well developed, and the character voices are fantastic! James Woods portrayal of Hades in this film is one of the most entertaining voice-overs ever done (with the help of great characterization by the animators!) And the other voices are what help make this film a lot of fun (again, with great characterization of the animators). I also found this useful as a supplement when teaching my children about Greek mythology--as you do learn about Hades, and Hydra, Zeus, The Titans, Cerebrus, Hercules, Achilles, etc. It's a nice elementary introduction to some of the characters for young ones (K-4), so we found it helpful. A fun way to learn a bit (although, just a "bit") of Greek mythology.

Although not one of my favorite movies from the Disney Renaissance, "Hercules" is one of those films that I had to purchase because I was seeking to fill the gap of what I didn't have. Upon re-watching, this movie is still as great as I remember, but there are things about Hercules that I truly don't admire as much as the other films. The story in Hercules is not historically accurate, but still ages well for me. I find that most Disney films mean more to me than they used to, and some are just "there." This movie is somewhat there. It doesn't make me feel as strongly as say "Beauty and the Beast," or "The Little Mermaid" does, nor does it make me want to watch it as much as "Mulan," but Hercules is a centrifugal part to the Renaissance as it follows the same patterns most films did in that time period. It is on par with "Aladdin," where the main character wants "more" and seeks acceptance in the everyday world. Although, seeing the stories placed side by side, "Aladdin" is the stronger contender. "Hercules" does feel like a cheap knock-off of the story "Aladdin" in the beginning, up until you meet another character Megara, then the story changes into something that "Aladdin" didn't have. I think the strongest part of "Hercules" is Megara, because she is so resistant to the world around her. However, the film doesn't hold up as well as other Renaissance films. Still, if you're collecting, Hercules is a truly great addition and still can be watched years later without truly changing. I highly recommend to anyone hoping to complete their collection, or introduce a new audience to the story.

Hercules is an excellent and often over looked Disney movie. It's beautiful, charming and was a real classic that many people missed when it was originally released. I've been waiting for it on Blu-Ray for years and was beginning to think they wouldn't ever release it. Fittingly this edition of the film comes with only a handful of bonus features, the picture quality is great but didn't get any special treatment that some Disney re-releases benefit from. Don't let the lack of frills fool you, it's still the best looking version of this film to date. This version includes the Blu-Ray and DVD copies of the movie as well as a code for the Disney Movies Anywhere so you can access your movie digitally. Either use the Disney Movies Anywhere app or sync your Disney Movies Anywhere account to Google, iTunes, Amazon and even your XBox and get easy digital access just about anywhere you want. I personally love this digital feature to these purchases and it's one of the reasons I continue to buy Disney Blu-Rays. It's great to get the physical disc, but it's even better to punch in each code and see the films added to my digital libraries as well!

want a modern Hercules this film is for you

A lesser known gem from Disney's Renaissance. The blu ray is an improvement over the previously released dvd, but it is not the revelation that Sleeping Beauty was, but there is a wide divide between the two films respective productions. Disney's Hercules is a great family film with a lot of humor, great performances, and a solid, if somewhat formulaic, story. There is a lot of humor for the adults, as well as for the kids.

"Hercules - Disney Classics" ist ein zeitloser Klassiker, der sowohl junge als auch ältere Zuschauer begeistert. Wer Disney mag, wird diesen Film lieben! Es ist einfach ein super Familienfilm, der mit seiner Mischung aus Humor und Herzpunkt perfekt für gemeinsame Filmabende geeignet ist. Die animierten Szenen sind farbenfroh und detailreich gestaltet, was den Film visuell ansprechend macht. Die Charaktere sind liebenswert und die Geschichte von Hercules' Reise zur Selbstfindung ist inspirierend und unterhaltsam zugleich. Besonders gefallen hat mir die gelungene Balance zwischen lustigen Momenten und emotionalen Tiefen, die den Film zu einem echten Erlebnis machen. Die Musik und die Songs sind eingängig und tragen maßgeblich zur Atmosphäre bei, wodurch sich der Film noch besser in Erinnerung einprägt.
