215s Dual Channel 15-Band Equalizer

This wonderful EQ is worth far more than it costs. The system: Levinson #39 transport/pre-amp, Levinson #31 amp, NHT 3.3 speakers, Transparent Reference XL cabling throughout. This setup has first class imaging, and it's now in the the best acoustic setting so far. Even so, it is a suburban house with furniture, rugs and display cases. Tested with Stereophile CD 1, there were several peaks and valleys, rather large in the <60Hz range. To the ear, the soundstage would shift a lot with just a little head movement. I've run the stereo in its new home long enough to know its imaging characteristics well for a number of favorites. The dbx 215s is between the pre-amp and amp. All connections are balanced. Before turning it on, the EQ was flattened so I could compare the soundstage before and after. What I hear is remarkable. Consider: audio imaging comes from waveforms whose phase is carefully preserved end-to-end. Any signal processing must, by its nature, delay the signal to do its magic. The 215s keeps wave phase perfectly aligned at all frequencies, at least as far as I could discern by ear or on the screen. There was no difference between the imaging with the EQ in or out. This clearly has sophisticated software on a fast DSP. Back to Stereophile CD 1. I agree with another review here: 15 bands is sufficient for tuning to an acoustic environment. The pass-band transitions are completely clean and phase-pure everywhere that's been tested. I've had two hours of tuning so far and know it can be improved even more. Heck, I'm in my office typing this and <30Hz freqs are propagating into the office as clearly as in the sound room. The reflections in the sound room are asymmetrical; I suppose that's true for everyone. This was managed nicely with left / right tuning, again using Stereophile #1. As the test tones move left and right, the reflective component of each side can be heard. As you adjust the 215s you can hear the changes tune out the reflections. With not much work the system now produces a luscious, tangible, smooth sound that pulls me out of the office to hear a song I know well - in a new way. The stereo is first-tier audio equipment, surprisingly brought to a higher level of performance by this remarkable little EQ at a price point unimaginable 5 years ago. Well done, dbx.

This 215 eq. unit has everything you'd expect from them: easy installation, excellent build and sound and...the rest is up to your ears and the room. 15 bands per channel is plenty for many applications and beyond a couple of extra push-button options, you just wire it up and it does its thing, quietly and well, and for a very good price. What's not to like? I have no association with DBX or Harman; I am just someone who likes predictably good gear.

So far it does the job well. I wouldn’t use it for anything super critical in a mixing context, but in a live DJ context it’s great. I actually use it to equalize my DJ monitors and it does the trick. Seems solidly built. Not sure as to longevity but if it’s like my other JBL devices, it should last a long time.

DBX is owned by Harman which also makes Crown Amps and JBL - it is very high quality. You can expect long reliable service. ---> Also, for anybody doing home audio and really means it with decent speakers , you should get one of these and not even consider it optional. <---- A good equalizer can punch, sparkle and just generally goose the sound of the average system. The connectors on teh back are XLR connectors, not the RCA you would see on a home receiver. You just have to get patch cords that convert RCA to XLR. Very easy.

The DBX 231s is an excellent addition to my dj set up. This eq provides great sounding clarity to my system and expands my highs, lows and mids. An affordable quality upgrade to any sound system.

This was an update for a 215 that had capacitors go bad. It was shipped fast and arrived in good condition. The EQ worked as described and is a nice update.

I don't always have the most well balanced source into my amplifier, this solves the shortcomings. This is the best equalizer I've owned so far. 15 bands is enough, 10 or 12 is not quite enough. It allows very precise adjustments yet with the "increase range" button gives you big adjustment options too. I would not be able to really enjoy my system without it.

Equalizzatore grafico più che sufficiente per uso domestico. Buona costruzione. Non è dotato di interruttore on off quindi da collegare a prese di corrente assistite . Apparecchio arrivato con 3 giorni di anticipo perfettamente imballato . Complimenti al venditore .

J'utilise ce matériel après un compresseur et ceci pour faire des voix off dans le cadre de réalisation de reportages vidéo. Question qualité/prix, il a un bon ratio. Je ne regrette pas cet achat, que du contraire...
