Review: Fast and quiet. Quirky setup, thought it was dead initially. - Received this drive, plugged in the power and nothing, you need to plug in the data cable aswell as the power cable. Then check your USBC, mine was quite difficult to seat properly, actually clicks into the port, very little silver of the connector should be visible. For a while I thought the drive was dead until I tried the USB cable and realized the ubc wasn't seated all the way. So heads up on this issue, almost returned because of it. Otherwise great drive, very good build quality.

**Q: Why is the transfer rate so slow? usb 3.0 is 5 gigabits per second and usb 3.1 is 10 gigabits per second. the listed 240 mb/s is slower than usb 2.0**
A: This drive is not slow at all - you have your megabits and megabytes confused. USB 2.0 has a max speed of 480mbps, which is 60MB/s, while USB 3.0 can push 640MB/s and this drive is 240MB/s, which is excellent for a single HDD (non-SSD, non-RAID) as most similar drives work in the 180-220MB/s range. Also please keep in mind that with any hard drive, the drive itself is usually the limiting factor in transfer speed. Meaning any single drive is typically not capable of reading/writing data at anywhere near the published max speed that the interface is "capable" of. You have to get into an SSD or multi-drive RAID setup to start really utilizing what today's faster interfaces like USB 3.0 and 3.1 are capable of.

**Q: Can you hear the fan when it's running or only when its doing a lot of work?**
A: I do not hear a fan, but this drive is loud.  Whenever it is doing something if it is on your desktop, you will hear it.  It is actually loud enough it is becoming a serious distraction, and I only use the drive for Time Machine backups.  If it were a drive you were accessing all the time and it was right near you, I would not be able to handle the noise.  I have another LaCie 5TB drive (USB powered, no external plug) and that one is essentially silent.  Why is this one so loud?

A: The LaCie d2 Professional performs perfectly on Macs and PCs alike, you can connect it to the USB 3.0 port on the back of the iMac 5K

A: Sorry, did not research this.  It's a great external hard drive that is built like a tank.  I am confident that it is going to hold up beyond any warranty period.

Received this drive, plugged in the power and nothing, you need to plug in the data cable aswell as the power cable. É caro como qualquer capacidade de armazenamento que você tentar comprar. Mas vale quanto pesa. É rápido e funciona bem em Macs, não tem nem que formatar. Eu tinha um WD de 4TB antes, mas além de ter de formatar, depois de algum tempo começou a ficar ejetando aleatóriamente, pensei que era um problema do Mac OS, mas não era. De tanto ejetar, ficou danificado e tive que formatar e perdi todos os dados armazenados. Mesmo assim, não funcionou. Aí, depois de pesquisar muito, decidi comprar esse HD da LaCie e até aqui tem funcionado muito bem, muito rápido e estável. Se você trabalha com Macintosh, compre dessa marca. É plug&play, não precisa fazer nenhuma configuração e funciona muito bem.
