When our son started teething around 4 months of age, it seemed like everything in our house was covered in drool, and there was nothing we could do to ease the poor little guy's aching gums. We tried every teething toy and technique we could find, and nothing seemed to help him. He was miserable, and so we were miserable. I received a recommendation from a friend that we should check out Sophie the Giraffe. Desperate and sleep deprived, we were willing to try anything. This toy arrived two days later (thanks Amazon Prime!), and he took to it like white on rice. He chewed on this thing like he had never chewed before. And while we had a nice puddle of drool under him, and his shirt was soaked, he was calm, not crying, and genuinely seemed to feel better. The giraffe has a very rubbery texture that provides gentle firmness when squeezed (or gummed). It also has a slight vanilla smell, and while I haven't tasted it myself, I'm sure that it has a bit of a taste as well, probably to mask the plastic taste. This toy has proven to be very durable, as it does not have any holes or scuffs, even though our son has had several teeth come in while using it. The paint also hasn't flaked off or faded, which is great for a children's chewing toy. To this day (4 months later), Sophie the Giraffe remains his favorite toy, and the only teething toy that will soothe his gums when a tooth starts moving. Knowing what I know now, I would have easily paid triple the price I paid for this. It has held up to a lot of abuse and has provided my son hours of soothing relief. If you have a baby that is or will soon be teething, you owe it to yourself and your child to buy this toy!

Sophie has been a family favorite across two generations and has been loved by both the boys and the girls alike. She is made of a very soft rubberlike material and has a pleasant give. Babies find this easy to hold, due to the design of the head, neck, body, and legs being constructed to maximize ease of use. All of the children and grandchildren have used her (well a version of her--we have bought at least 6 for family) for teething relief and general comfort. I have never seen so much as a gouge or scratch on one of her and she is easily cleaned/disinfected. This teether is a go-to for baby showers and is always well received.

I was blown away at the number of reviews Sophie has, and decided to give her a try. Yes, she's pricey for what's essentially a baby chew toy. Yes, she's made of rubber & squeaks, and could easily be mistaken for a dog toy. Yes, she lives up to the hype! I got Sophie when my daughter was about 3 months old. I took her out of the package, washed her according to the directions, and handed her off to baby. Who, no joke, IMMEDIATELY grabbed on and shoved Sophie in her mouth! I think it was love at first sight. Now at over 6 months old Sophie is still baby's favorite toy. I don't know if it's her smell, her paint job, or if it's just magic, but if baby could talk I'm pretty sure she would tell me that Sophie is her best friend!! I was so impressed I got one for a friend's baby, who had the same excited reaction and her own new best friend! Many reviewers say that Sophie poses a choking hazard. I suppose baby might gag on the legs if they went too far in the mouth, but fortunately that's not happened to us. Many things a baby comes in contact with could be hazardous if the child is left unattended. I don't think this toy is any more hazardous than any other toy in baby's toy box. Overall, Sophie is great for teething and has many fun spots to chew on. Easy to clean & small enough to throw in the diaper bag. I HIGHLY recommend this toy, it's totally worth the money!

My first child never got a Sophie the Giraffe. I thought the hype had to be overblown. It's a chew toy right? Why is it about $25? That's crazy. For my second child I was hunting around for gift ideas to share with relatives for Christmas. Our 4 month old can't get enough of chewing on her fists right now, so we are looking hard for things she can grasp and chew on. Enter Sophie. I read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Plus the price went down to $15--really great! Sophie became a Santa present. What a hit. Our 4 month old has received lots of teething toys for Christmas and this giraffe is clearly her favorite. Sophie is not just any old squeaky teether. She is very soft and easy to squeak. You can squeeze her almost anywhere on her body and it squeaks. Our 4 month old can even make it squeak. There are all sorts of surfaces to gnaw on and our 4 month old seems to be able to keep the giraffe in her grasp fairly well. She loves to gum it. Made of natural rubber, the giraffe feels soft and maleable. The description says it feels like mommy's skin and I can see that. We're so used to cheap plastic in our world that once you touch Sophie you know you have something different and special in your hands. So my recommendation is to get over the expensive chew toy hang up and buy your baby a Sophie the Giraffe. One Sophie is better than a bunch of other teething toys that are likely too hard, too heavy, or not easy enough to grasp. Just get Sophie. It would make an excellent baby shower gift!

I held off on getting this teether thinking someone would get it for me as a gift. When I didn't receive it as a gift, I finally broke down and bought it, despite what I thought was a high price. The second I took Sophie out of the package, my daughter fell in love with her. Sophie is soft and apparently very comforting to chew on. My daughter loves her. She chews on her head and her feet and it really seems to help while she's teething. I wish I hadn't waited 7 months to buy Sophie. The only drawback (and this is no fault of the toy/teether itself) is that my dogs are obsessed with it because it is so similar to their dog toys. They wait for my daughter to put it down and then try to grab it. I have to keep it out of their reach whenever my daughter isn't actively using it. (Trying to teach them not to touch it hasn't worked yet.) In response to the person who said it is a dog toy - it is NOT. Yes, it sounds a bit like one and is the texture of one, but it is SAFE for babies to chew. It is natural rubber and it is made with food-grade paint - unlike all of the dog toys that I have (and have seen). It was designed specifically for a baby - it is the perfect shape to hold and gnaw on. I am certain if you have a teething baby, you will love this toy! Just be sure to keep it away from your dogs!

I used to have a very similar toy when I was a kid. It was so long ago, of course, that I am not even sure the giraffes were invented at the time yet. Oh well... After I grew up, it became one of the favorite teething toys for my kid brother and sister. When my sister had her first child, I saw Sophie the Giraffe and the memories of it came back. Suffice it to say that in two days my nephew Brent was happily gnawing on his new chew-toy. He loved it so much that it was really a requirement to take it with us when we left the house. Besides our family's collective happy memories, here are some things about this toy you might find helpful: ✔ It emits a tiny squeak when squeezed. ✔ The coloring seems to be very appealing to kids, with all the spots of gentle color. ✔ It's easy to grip by the neck or legs, even with little hands. ✔ The softness varies over the body - it's important for teething, since kids might want different pressure to bite on. ✔ The quality and robustness are great. It will easily survive a few generations of kids. If you can find it in the mountain of toys and the dogs won't get to it first, of course. Get it for your first child and it will last you till your youngest went through teething. Recommended. Important! Please do make sure the child does not choke by accident on any of the teething toys they have. This is something to look out for, especially when they start rolling on their stomachs.

When my firstborn son hit the teething age I was determined not to fall for the Sophie hype. I seemed to notice every Manhattan baby in their posh ergonomic stroller riding through the streets of NYC while chomping on Sophie the Giraffe. I would groan whenever I saw Sophie in the hands of yet another babe as I was sure she was just an overpriced baby fashion accessory and I thus, became the quintessential Sophie hater. To me, Sophie resembled an overpriced puppy dog toy with a bad paint job that was more suitable for a 7 lb Pomeranian dog as opposed to my baby. And whenever I heard babies pass by me on the street while squeezing Sophie to make her squeak she only seemed to be that much more of a glorified puppy dog toy scam that was aimed at self conscious striving yuppie urban parents. Thus, I suffered without Sophie at my disposal as my son slurped on other teething toys with little relief when he suffered through his uncomfortable teething phases. Fast forward another few years and I was still quite anti-Sophie when my second child was born. But her teething was so bad that I was determined to give anything a try to provide her with relief - including the hated and possibly over hyped Sophie. In fact, I distinctly remember grumbling to myself as I was purchasing her on amazon with the thought that I was spending over $20 (and about $19 too much) on what was tantamount to a squeaky looking plastic toy teether more suitable for the canine species. Yet, I will fully admit that my cynicism about Sophie started to wane the moment that Sophie arrived looking cheerful in her pleasantly designed packaging. And once I took her out of her peppy package and ran my fingers over her spots and looked closely at her little face that smiled right back at me, I thought to myself ....well, she is actually ... (dare I say it)....cute! Then I handed Sophie to my teething daughter for the true test of her value and lo and behold my daughter took one look at Sophie's face and giggled, then licked her horns and promptly started chomping on her head. And once my baby daughter figured out that Sophie not only felt good on her gums but also squeaked, she was truly in love with her. Since then my daughter has spent countless hours gnawing on Sophie and squeezing her to make her squeak. She started referring to Sophie as 'E' and would scream and motion for her whenever she saw Sophie sitting on the shelf at home. I must mention though that the only reason that I am not giving Sophie 5 stars is because my daughter once managed to get one of Sophie's legs stuffed down towards her throat and she gagged pretty violently. After that, I never left Sophie alone with my daughter at all, Instead, after this happened, I was even more careful to only give Sophie to her when I was holding my daughter or playing close attention to my daughter as she used Sophie for teething, to ensure that my daughter didn't push Sophie's legs down her throat. Since I never really left my daughter as an infant alone with toys anyways, it wasn't that big of a deal for me and it didn't keep her from using Sophie frequently. So, the moral of the story is that the infamous Sophie the Giraffe teether has won over another hardened skeptic. I tried to resist her but her powers are too strong and although you may try to resist her too, before you know it Sophie's magical powers will be causing you to shell out $20 so that your child too can join the other cool kids at the playground and carry Sophie around as the fashionable must have baby/pseudo dog toy, teether that she is. In all seriousness, I would definitely buy Sophie again as a gift for another expecting mom and I have had no problems with her spots coming off despite the amount of teething that my daughter used her for. I would, however, recommend getting a Sophie 'leash' because babies love to throw Sophie like a launched missile out of their strollers and you will be cursing yourself for not buying her a leash to secure her to your stroller when you lose her on a walk and then have to spend yet another $20 for a replacement Sophie! After 3 years of Sophie ownership, I finally feel pretty qualified to give an accurate review. Right out of the box I fell in love with it, but my son did not. I attribute this to him being a little too young (2 months old). When he hit the teething stage though, he wanted nothing but Sophie. She is very soft which I think helped contribute to his favoritism (along with the rewarding squeak she makes). She reminds me of the vintage toys of my mom's I used to play with when I was growing up. I read some reviews about people's children chewing right through this. Unless you have a little vampire, I can't see how this is possible. Granted, the material is thin but ours has held up all of this time. I also read a review about its legs being a choking hazard. As with any toy you need to always supervise your young child. There is no way your child is going to choke on this thing if you are there to supervise. The legs that stick out are attached to a GIANT body that you can pull away from your infant/toddler quickly and guess what? When you pull on the body, the legs come with it. My son is now over 3 years old and Sophie is still his favorite toy. She has enjoyed family vacations, joined us at the dinner table (putting in more than her share of high chair time), endured a hospital visit, gone to the beach, played in the sand, gone camping, to sleep-overs, is a must-have at bedtime and she is still going strong. Most of her spots have faded/disappeared now which is no wonder considering all she has been through and that the dye used is natural. She has payed for herself a million times over and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase her again. $18 is nothing compared to the excellent companionship she has given for years. One note of advice if you want the squeaker to last.....be very careful not to get water into the squeaker when you are cleaning it. If you do, let it dry thoroughly before letting your little one play with it. Ours still works, but I can see where the squeaker would get ruined if you get too much water in it. I guess your happiness with Sophie will depend on: 1) your expectations of it and 2) your child's feelings towards it. I can't guarantee that your child is going to take to Sophie like mine did. Because of all the hype with this toy, please do not expect it to be the be-all-end-all in children's playthings. Take it at face value. It's an adorable squeaky giraffe with a big smile on her face. Do not expect it to "babysit" your child or stun them with too many lights and loud noises. It doesn't require batteries, just imagination. Something kids today could probably use more of.

ho acquistato questo prodotto poiché cercavo qualcosa di specifico per la dentizione..e questo è il migliore della sua categoria, che dire, subito, vista in foto questa giraffa non mi sembrava un granché (esteticamente parlando), ma poi appena arrivata ho dovuto ricredermi, dal vivo è molto più bella e si vede che è di ottima fattura !! La mia bimba di 4 mesi, che al momento interagiva solo con giochi di stoffa, ha gradito molto e riesce ad afferrarla bene e portarla alla bocca , lei si diverte e ne è incuriosita ed io sono tranquilla poiché so che ci può giocare in tutta sicurezza! Anche la spedizione è stata ottima come sempre !! voto : 5 stelle !!

Ich hab Vulli erstanden, weil mir der Name irgendwie schon vor meinem Sohn ein Begriff war und ich bei einem Bekannten zufällig darauf stieß, der sie mir wärmstens empfahl. Habe sie recht fix erhalten. Zuerstmal habe ich persönlich geschluckt, weil ich sie mir doch etwas größer vorgestellt hatte. Aber gut, ist dann wohl irgendwie doch eher meiner Fantasie anzulasten. Nur so als Tip, damit sich manch anderer nicht auch erschreckt :o) Mein Sohnemann fand sie von Anfang an toll. Sie ist schön weich, quasi griffsympatisch. Er war schon im Alter, in dem man alles gleich anlutscht und so fanden die Nase und auch die Beine gleich ihren Nutzen. Schade finde ich, dass man bei der Form nicht entweder die Hörner, oder die Ohren länger gemacht hat. Alles steht nah beieinander, ist ja anatomisch auch richtig. Leider passen aber nicht alle vier Sachen in den Mund, einzelne jedoch sind zu kurz. Da dafür aber bisher die Nase herhalten musste, ist es für mich nicht wirklich Punktabzug wert. Mittlerweile hat er auch die Sache mit der Akustik raus. Er findet es also super die Kleine einfach nur festzuhalten und drauflos zu quietschen. Dabei empfinde ich sie nicht als zu laut. Ist eben ein Quietschtier, angenehm musikalisch ist was anderes, aber so ists nunmal... Alles in allem also eine tolle Sache, das Ding. Würde es immer wieder holen.

Cuando recibí la jirafa lo primero que pensé fue .... parece un juguete para un perro!! tanto dinero para esto? Pero ahora mismo estoy super contenta con mi compra, tengo un bebé de 4 meses y es sin duda su juguete favorito, se pasa largos ratos jugando, apretando para que haga ruido y mordiendo la jirafa, al ser ligero y tener las patas largas resulta muy fácil para poder agarrar, no huele a plástic y es totalmente seguro ... todo favorable y precio razonable en relación a la calidad . Sin duda volvería a comprarlo!

Priced at 1000re, it was a premium buy. And disappointing when i realized it's too big and complicated my 4 month old. But then at 5 months he figured it out and since then this is his favorite teether. Unlike other teethers this doesn't have a handle( that they can't chew on), has multiple textures and is a toy as well. I would recommend this product
