Great pencils and a great price!
These are great pencils for a child or an adult. The 50 pack provides a nice variety of colors. And I like the Crayola pencils because they do not seem to be made from rubberwood (important if you or someone in your home has a latex allergy) like many other brands are now using in their pencils and they contain no smelly cedar wood (great if anyone in your home has asthma). Another reason I like Crayola's pencils is because they will produce color with a light touch. Some colored pencils I have tried require you to push quite hard to get color onto the page. Which can be fatiguing after awhile for a typical person if they color for long periods of time. But I have a neuromuscular disease so I really appreciate not having to use a lot of strength to get these pencils to transfer color. Also if you are working with a child with motor skill issues, you will appreciate that they don't have to push as hard to get them to color - which is often an issue with kids with autism or other issues that can present with motor skill difficulties or delays. Just keep the pencils sharpened and they will write with ease. My daughter with autism loves to color with these pencils. Myself and my other children all use them as well. The price on Amazon seem to fluctuate quite a bit depending on who the seller is, but if you keep an eye on the price you can often purchase them sold by Amazon at a very affordable price and shipped through Prime, it's a great deal. Just a tip: I keep them in a short, wide-mouth style, canning jar. That way they are easy to reach and easy to see the colors that you have to choose from. The glass jar is heavy enough that they don't topple over on us while trying to choose a pencil. And we can easily transport them around the house or outside, depending on where we are coloring.

You Can Always Trust Crayola
I DO love having these colors at my disposal, no mixing paints or cleaning brushes. I am a semi-professional artist. I once sold a hubcap for $300! I sold three more, not as heavily endeavored, to a friend, who had $65 for me. I understood he wanted to pay a lot more, but he worked for a certain salary and no more. I once (foolishly) turned down an offer of $900 for an octagonal abstract piece, done with antique vinyl-type tiles. It was as large as a table top. A therapist asked if I could give her some of my work, as she really liked it. I made color copies of my pieces (8 1/2" x 11"). She wanted to pay me, but therapuetic ethics were not in favor of that, but I was just pleased that she liked my art and I still retained the original paintings, abstract, acrylic paints on acid-free white copy paper. Someday I hope to achieve a very worthy work using these Crayola colors. I hope to see MORE colors! I'd love a box of say, 200 colors! BUT - with a guarantee that I can cheaply purchase a replacement if I have a lost or ruined pencil - a set like this would be a considerable investment for me, on my income. I have glimpsed "rumors" that there will be a set of 100 colors made! I intend to invest in these, learn them, enjoy them, create something spectacular and valuable with them. It is time for me to branch out from painting with acrylics (only buy Liquitex if you plan to mix your own colors). I am quite gifted with mixing color, especially after taking a color theory class at the college level. It is largely a matter of experience, seeking out color theory educational matter, and buying the right paints to begin with. In cheap paints, the red always has a bit of black in it, the blue also, and the yellow has a bit of white. For cans of paint, get the colors you want by the can, pre-mixed. Believe me, it's important. One of my ambitions is to become an abstract mural painter, but I can do some realism, too, though it's much, much harder. As a teen, when all the stuff in one's brain is going crazy, sprouting neurons and dendrites and axons and gypsies, that's when, if you have a small native talent for something, you are supposed to finish developing into the best you can be. I was forced to do housework and cooking for six as well as my homework...la madrustra malvado la diabla. I accidentally got better at art even though I had little time or energy to do it. I took a year of Commercial Art in Advertising before I was promoted to become a McDonald's Certified Swing Manager, eligible for promotion. (My life took a different path). I love these colors and tell everybody to never use anything but CRAYOLA because they are superior to anything else on the market, and that's because the other stuff is second-rate and inferior, in my opinion, which is the point of my review! : )

Better than Prang brand
These are great for my coloring activity books. I make it a habit to read lower numbered reviews to see what others have issues with. It seems as if it depends on what you're doing with these pencils and want to achieve. I cannot attest to kid friendly but as an adult, the Crayola pencils are a holy grail. To those who are complaining about breakage, get yourself a decent pencil sharpener, preferably metal not plastic. Sharpening these pencils can be tricky but from experience, on a two sided sharpener, use the larger hole, not the smaller and on an angle, slow and with two hands, otherwise it will break. Also, decrease the pressure with your fingers, a hard hand is never a good thing. Crayola long colored pencils give wonderful results. A hard long stroke gives the boldest color. If you wish to increase color temperature, these are super blendable and very smooth. With Prang, this doesn't happen- the colors are not as acute. I can sit for hours using these and blending with the other colors, create results based on what the drawing is. Short fast strokes produces a hair effect. I'm not going to bore anyone who reads this review with pencil techniques, but with the price, and the 50 pieces inside the box, the quality is exactly what I needed. The con for me was the packaging, I'm not a fan of boxes. I like my colored pencils in a upright position to see them. I used a cylinder shaped can ( from asparagus ), decorated it with duck tape, and voila- instant pencil holder. Hope my words can be of benefit for someone.

Iffy shipping, fantastic product
The pencils came in an mailing envelope with many of them spilled out of the box; I took pictures, thinking at least a few of them would have been broken. No need to worry, though! Two eventually did start splintering from sharpening, but it's my own fault, I guess. The variety of colors is perfect. I don't do adult coloring books - I'm a blossoming traditional artist, and these were my first foray into colored pencils. Great blending, could be a bit more pigmented and a bit smoother to go down, but fantastic for the price. I love the fact that I can layer different colors to get the shades and tones I need and, honestly, I can't imagine what I'd do with more colors. I also got some cheap alcohol-based markers, and these work amazingly with those. Markers give the pencils some much-needed vibrancy and solidity (which are hard to get with the pencils on thicker or textured paper unless you're pressing very hard), and the pencils make quick work of shading and details. Plus, the variety of pencil colors means I can get away with less markers, which are by far more expensive! Thank you, Crayola!

Teacher's Dandy Dollar$ Prize
I homeschool two students and in an attempt to spur them to "want" to learn and enjoy their classroom experience a little more, while teaching some "money" management and math skills, I used a suggestion from another teacher and created the Dandy Dollar$ Box. These are one of the items in the box. The kids earn Dandy Dollar$ for doing assignments exceptionally well, or doing extra work or demonstrating a "learning mindset"; once a month we bring out the Dandy Dollar$ box and they can shop. I've filled the box with things they may want...bubble wands, colored pencils, coloring books, notebooks, cool erasers, special pencils (Amazon's Add-on items are great for this type of idea). Each item is priced at the original cost and they pay the price to get the item. Of course, with every cool thing, there is the opportunity for them to lose Dandy Dollar$ for bad behavior or bad attitudes during school. The kids are very excited about this and hopefully it will entice them to enjoy school a little more. These colored pencils serve two purposes...there is a fair amount of coloring in their school lessons and I wanted them to transition to colored pencils from crayons to improve their coloring skills. They both like to color and they are able to use these not only for their school lessons but for the cool coloring books in the box as well.

Package will drive you mad if you have OCD
If you're looking for a variety of colors, this is a decent set of colored pencils. As for the artistic quality of Crayola vs other brands of colored pencils, I can't speak to that, but these work fine for a coloring book or a child. The wood is pretty hard, as is the colored lead, but a variety of pressure can yield a variety of darkness. There is a gold and a silver which are apparently shiny. I haven't really tried them. There is also a "bronze yellow," but I'm not sure if that is supposed to be metallic or why they didn't make a copper and bronze to complete that metallic concept. Not many blues, but several greens, pinks, and oranges. It does have all of the basic colors, at least (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet (purple), brown, black, gray, and white). Cosmetically, some of the color names are a little hard to read because they were printed too deep in the wood or the shiny ink covers too large an area, and there were a few that had a chip at the bottom edge of the pencil, but this isn't a big deal. My chief complaint is with the package design. For one thing, I like to keep my colored pencils, markers, etc. organized in some sort of a rainbow-y order so I can find a particular color quickly. Heck, I could even organize them alphabetically... just some sort of order so I'm not grabbing at random when I want a particular color. However, no matter how I want them organized, this box makes that IMPOSSIBLE. For one thing, they come organized differently from either of the two orders shown on the box. I know because the pencils had marked the inside of the top flap of the box, and that order does not match up with the top-down photos of pencils on the top of the box OR the named colors listed on the back. So, I tried organizing them based on the names on the back, but no matter what angle I hold the box, there is no way to successfully create two neat rows of 25 without the pencils getting out of order. The box has no interior dividers or extra support on the front and back panels to prevent the box from buckling out in the middle and allowing the pencils to shift around. Furthermore, the pencils will randomly get stuck on the bottom flap and not want to go all the way in, meaning you have to wiggle them around. I tried putting them in from the bottom, thinking that would help, but then when I closed the bottom flap it pushed some of the pencils up anyway. If the bottoms of the pencils are not perfectly pushed together, good luck even fitting an entire row of 25 in the box. There's also a chance the top flap could fall open in a backpack or bag, as it is not secured like the bottom flap is. When I was younger, I had a box of 64 (or 96?) Crayola crayons that was several rows deep, with open-topped mini boxes/dividers arranged stadium-style that held maybe 8 crayons each, within the larger box (it had a hinged lid/flap). This colored pencil box could really use some dividers like that. You could add your own, but who has time to do that? Crayola, if you're reading this, fix ya' box, please. XD

Made by Crayola! Pure Unbridled Magic of Unlimited Potential in a Box!
Ah, C R A Y O L A ! ! ! The name alone is powerful enough to instantly evoke those wonderful memories of being a child and wielding the magical power of a crayon, a colored pencil, or a marker. Those magical Crayola colors never failed to disappoint, they allowed you to color the sky blue on the rainiest of days, to make the sun the brightest of yellow on the darkest nights, to add stars to a void, to put the greenest grass onto field, and to even draw a picture of the most beautiful and colorful flowers for your mother when she wasn't feeling well. We used them at school, we used them at home, we used them with others, we used them alone...we colored in books and tried to stay in the lines, and we created original masterpieces that hung from the refrigerator door. We connected the dots, we melted the crayons in pots, we left spots on the walls, entire murals in the halls...we chewed them on a dare, we highlighted our hair...even left them for dad to sit on in his favorite char. Okay, sorry. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the box says "Crayola" on it, that is all one needs to know to understand that that the limits for this product are unbridled, the brilliance of the colors are without bound...the wheels on the bus go round and round!!!

Work Very Well With Adult Coloring Books
Crayola Colored Pencils are excellent. They deliver 'very vivid'colors, there are a wide variety of shades, and they are under $7! (It's Amazon so of course delivery was on time and well packaged). On arrival the pencils a pre-sharpened, they have a good weight to them, and with a decent sharpener one turn of the pencil sharpener and you have a nice sharp tip - btw just the tip needs sharpening. Coloring is a breeze - I can layer colors, outline, shade, make the colors as bright or as muted as want. I've tried Prismacolor Verithin - too expensive. I have tried just plain old Crayola brand crayons - too waxy. ...these Crayola colored pencils are by far the best I've used for the adult coloring books. What was becoming a chore (and costly) has now turned into a bona fide relaxing and creative activity. highly recommend! I attached one of my completed coloring pages - hope the brightness shows through.
