It could end up being a gift for both of you :)The rocks: Large, but not Giant. Heavy, smooth, good for large muscles. 8 is a good number, this is a good deal. I would like if they weren't all the exact same shape, but honestly, they work just fine. I may get some medium/small ones simply for feet/hands - I think these are something we'll use!How to heat/use: (Disclaimer: I'm not a pro! It's just a hobby) I heated them in the crockpot, covered in water - Low setting didn't heat them enough, so I turned them on High. After about 20 minutes, take them out 2 at a time with tongs and dip them in cold water for a few seconds - til the "skin" is cool, but the "core" is still hot. If you can hold them in your hands for 3 seconds without feeling that it's too hot for you.. it's probably okay for skin. Make sure you dry them off before using on someone's skin, and use a light oil if any. Stones also maintain heat for a fair amount of time. My only complaint is they can be hard to use with massage oil as the stones keep slipping. My hands also became very fatigued. Overall I was able to give a one hour massage.
