I remember my grandmother's house, where there was a coal chute to deliver coal to the basement. My nephew, not so much. He thought getting coal in his stocking was a joke! So I purchased this, to turn the joke back on him. This particular item is a decent size - 3" - so it feels like a nugget. I looked at other items that were tiny, to fit in a little sample cup in a mineral collection. If that's what you want, buy that. For my purposes, the 3" nugget was perfect. How we forget - coal-fired stoves weren't all that long ago, were they?

They’re really nice chunks of coal! I was expecting just some small shards but there’s a nice selection of sizes. Would be fun for the Christmas stockings gag. I was going to use them in an electric English fire stove but it didn't work out.

If you are going for size, this is not your chunk of coal.

Good sample.. Bought for a friend that had never seen or touched real coal. Hw loves it.

Was disappointed with size of the pieces. Not the 3” I anticipated for the price. However, they will serve the purpose intended. Shipping was fast and packaged well.
