The way she changes the formations of paragraphs depending on who’s perspective we’re reading through is so much fun. The three main characters are all enjoyable and have their fun individual characteristics. Watching Tony Vanessa and Connor interact with each other and the other patients and doctors is very entertaining and being able to look into each of their minds and see what and how all three of them think makes the book significantly more engaging. A wonderful book, pick it up and give it a read if you haven’t.SPOILERS from here on outWhat happens with Tony and Vanessa in my opinion, was fine. Tony had no sexual interaction that was consensual to that point in his life so he genuinely had no idea if he wanted to get into a relationship with a woman or not, and that’s where Vanessa came in. I was very happy to see those two be happy together, even though it could be a little cringeworthy at some points. What bothers me, and again spoilers don’t read this next part of you haven’t read the book. Is Connor’s death, the suddenness of it was portrayed really well, displaying how quickly a seemingly fine person can deteriorate into suicide with little to no warning, Connors death isn’t what I have a problem with, it’s Tony and Vanessas reaction to it. Although it was shown repeatedly that all three of them were unwell, I figured Tony and Vanessa would feel, or at least show, a little more grief, especially Tony. He had a little bit of a breakdown and got upset, but I feel like Tony’s breakdown should have been significantly more devastating that what is was. Still a wonderful book fully deserving of five stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love it ! *by M***N on Reviewed in Germany on 13 May 2013* Auf jeden Fall hat sich Impulse direkt einen Weg in mein Herz gesucht. Auch wenn das Buch ein sehr schwieriges Thema behandelt, schafft es Ellen Hopkins trotzdem das Thema sehr sensibel aber auch sehr direkt anzusprechen. Dennoch, das Buch behandelt noch viel mehr als nur das Thema Selbstmord, wir treffen hier noch viele andere Themen an: Liebe, Sehnsucht, Wünsche, Freundschaft, Familie, Missbrauch, Gewalt, Depressionen, Geisteskarnkheiten... Und totz dieser ganzen eher negativen und schwierigen Themen schafft die Autorin es, dass das Buch nicht zur zähen Kost wird, denn es kommen auch immer wieder einige schöne und positive Momente im Leben der drei Protagonisten vor.Was ein sehr wichtiger Punkt an Impulse ist, ist der Schreibstil. Denn dieser Unterscheidet sich in mancher Hinsicht von denen anderer Autoren, da Ellen Hopkins in Versform schreibt. (Vielleicht kennen einige von euch das schon aus Lisa Schroeders In Liebe Brooklyn) Ihre Wortwahl ist sehr überlegt, wirkt aber nie gestellt oder unnatürlich und der Stil passt auch gut zu ihren Charakteren. Man merkt dem Buch auch an, dass es nicht nur so dahin geschrieben wurde sondern, dass auch sehr viele Gedanken dahinter stecken.Die Geschichte wird abwechselnd aus der Ich-Perspektive der drei Protagonisten Conner, Tony und Vanessa erzählt und so bekommen wie bei allen dreien einen guten Einblick in ihre Gedanken. Die drei waren auch wirklich sehr sypathische Charaktere und ich konnte mich gut in sie hineinversetzten, auch wenn ich (zum Glück) unter ganz anderen Umständen lebe/aufgewachsen bin. Ich möchte euch auch jetzt auch nichts näheres zu den dreien erzählen, da genau das die Spannung aufbaut - das kennenlernen der Protagonisten.Und ich muss noch was gestehen, eigentlich weine ich nur sehr selten bei Büchern und Filmen, doch dieses Buch ist mir wirklich sehr ans Herz gegangen und mir sind nicht nur einmal die Tränen gekommen. Und am Ende des Buches war ich auch etwas fertig, ich meine dieses Ende war echt brutal und sehr, sehr traurig.Zum Schluss noch etwas zur Sprache, obwohl das Buch mit 680 Seiten wirklich dick ist (und dann noch Englisch) hatte ich es sehr schnell durchgelesen. Ich hatte eigentlich keinerlei Probleme mit der Sprache, auch wenn ich wirklich noch kein erfahrener Englisch-Leser bin. Mit meinem Schulenglisch und dem was ich aus den Filmen und Serien, die ich auf Englisch gucke gelernt habe, bin ich sehr gut durch das Buch gekommen und musste kaum Wörter nachschlagen.Fazit:Ein wunderbares, ergreifendes und auch sehr trauriges Buch, das ich so schnell nicht mehr vergessen werde und definitif nicht mein letztes Buch von Ellen Hopkins.
