Is there a way to set measurement depth?

There is not a way to change this

I'm having trouble finding the locaton of a water leak in my car. WIll this work on my cars carpet and or headliner fabrics etc?

The meter is designed to test moisture of drywall, wood and masonry. It takes the reading at 3/4 deep. I've used on carpet over masonry, but not sure if it would work on carpet over steel. I'm thinking you will get a false reading.
