And I say that seriously because these blades are not platinum coated and I'm of the opinion (based on long experience ... since 1960) that a non-platinum coated blade isn't truly suitable to use on one's face. For some reason platinum takes the "bite" out of a blade and almost magically provides a much more comfortable shave. I suspect these Personna blades are as good as any non-platinum coated blade. But virtually any platinum coated blade will provide a more comfortable shave than these particular non-platinum coated Personna blades. But Personna also sells platinum-chrome blades and they are very good for facial shaving. But for the buttocks? These will probably work fine. But I'm sure most the rest of us would be a bit curious to see the position you were in when you did it. **Q: astra** A: Not sure about Astra. I've used Merkur, Sharks, and Persona but the Persona has been the best in my opinion. Merkur blades are sharp. Sharks blades are economical but Persona blades are both sharp and economical. I shave everyday and I've only used two Persona blades in a year. I use the blade until it becomes dull. Merkur blades last about two weeks for me and Shark blades last about a week and a half. I had two Persona blades that came with my Magnus double edge safety razor. **Q: Are these considered the "barber" blades or the "lab blues"?** A: Reading the box, these blades are made in Germany. The so-called "Lab Blues" (It's a nickname, not an official designation) are made in Verona, Virginia, USA by a company called Accutec. They make 2 double edge blades, both of which are not sold through the usual retail channels. The ones stamped "For Hospital Use" have been nicknamed "Med Preps" and sell for about $35/100 through lab equipment distributors. The "Lab Blues", sold through the same channels, usually to laboratories for slide preparation are not stamped like that and typically go for about $10-20/100. **Q: Where do men get their information about all the different razor brands and which ones are good for coarse beards, info on shaving soap vs oil, etc.?** A: One way is to google "wet shaving" or read the reviews on Amazon for different products.Also, www.badgerandblade.com is a forum on shaving.
