On a longer trip the whine came back and got a temp warning for transmission. Slowed down and it went away but checking fluid color is pretty bad and I have about 22k on fluid so going to change at every 20k now. I don't believe this is the fluid's fault I think this is just the nature of the CVT. CVT is still shifting good and no chattering just fluid is broken down quicker than expected. I do live in Texas and high heat may have added to this but not sure.
