Jaja. Review: To be honest i was sad after finishing this book coz i wanted to read it everyday. It is so addicting and I'm waiting for another Kevin Kwan's novel.

This was interesting and dramatic fiction that revolved around whole new level of craziness when Rachel set her feet in China to meet her father and his family. The story was about Rich people and their lifestyle, snobbery, family drama, power play, money personalities and behavioral change, East Asian culture, friendship, and love. Like first book this was more character driven and once again secondary characters shadowed Nick and Rachel. We get to read more about Astrid and Michael. Colette surprisingly got lot of focus in story. She was Rachel’s brother, Carlton’s China Rich Girlfriend. Kitty’s character and her part of story was entertaining but I still don’t get her importance here. Rachel’s new family’s dynamic and their issues with each other and with Rachel entering their life was well written. I enjoyed reading Nick and Rachel and their dramatic adventure in China. Best part of the book was reading about new places of China and Hong Kong, all amazing details on culture, food, dresses, crazy rich extravagant lifestyle, social cues, and footnotes. Why 4 stars- Like I said I don’t get the importance of Kitty’s character in this. There was too much focus on Kitty and Colette than main characters and their issues. Also Charlie’s wife’s story felt unbelievable. Overall, China Rich Girlfriend was interesting, dramatic, entertaining and extravagant rich fiction with amazing details on East Asian culture and lifestyle. I recommend this if you like, First book in series interesting characters Character driven plot so much details on culture and lifestyle drama gossip magazines and blogs well written family dynamic some insightful and some epic moments

Kevin Kwan's series (i.e. Crazy Rich Asians and then China Rich Girlfriend) were a hoot so I counted the days until Rich People Problems would come out. And then it did and so of course I burrowed my nose in it as soon as I could get hold of it and... well, it wasn't as action-packed as the first two books. The families mellowed down a bit and Rachel was not much in it. But at least we get to see more of Nicky's grandmother and their strange family. Astrid's story I found okay. Just okay. Isabel Wu was actually the one that, in my opinion, livened up Astrid's story -- much like a pair of nude Louboutin pumps: Astrid could be the exterior. Isabel brings up the red soles, making the shoes appear flashier, more exciting in a sense. (Just pardon the lousy analogy.) Eddie was of course irritating but offered the comedic / annoying elements that livened up the story. I also especially enjoyed the plot development of Kitty Pong but felt that Kwan could have also developed (or provided more insights to) those of Colette Bing, Jacqueline Ling and Go Peik Lin (and in this respect also of Alistair Cheng). (Perhaps another book for them, then?) Rich People Problems also made me terribly curious about the "Imperial Shangs" --- the book did seem to provide ample foundation for another book, this time on the Shang side. All in all, Kwan's writing is always entertaining, lively (apart from some dramatic Astrid-Charlie moments), and enjoyable.
